Wells Fargo CLI

I am so happy. I had to call Wells because I got double charged on an $8 car wash. I decided that since I was already on the phone I may as well ask if they do a hard pull on a CLI thinking that they always do. She said no and that they do an internal evaluation. She asked if I wanted to do it. Sure why not. I asked for $1000. Currently I am at $2200. They asked a few questions and it came back instantly approved. I didn't think they would approve because they finally made my secured card an unsecured one in September after 2.5 years of having it secured. I asked her what went into the app. She said that its just internal and they look at my spending, over the limit, late payments and other accounts. I do have a checking, savings, business checking, and merchant account with them, so maybe that helped. I also use my Wells CC as my primary CC. I am just happy that I have now increased my total CL between all my cards by 25%, and without a hard pull.

My WF card is the cash back college card. Its a great card with low interest rate. They started me out at a $1000 CL, and then about 3 years later I got a $600 CLI.

Its not a bad card, just slow to grow.

Congrats on the increase!

I'd double check reports to ensure no HP was placed, since it seems csr often do not know the difference between soft and hard pulls.

I will check it early next month. After it was approved I asked her what went into the process. That is when she told me about the internal stuff. She said if I was declined she would want to send me to another department to actually run my credit. I guess we will see in about a week or so if it s true.

Re: Wells Fargo CLI

Make sure you have a checking or savings with them. When I got my mortgage thru them they offered a pre-approved credit card. They tried to get me to open a savings or checking with them when I called in to get the card. I have been with my current bank for over 20yrs and had no need for either. They went ahead with the credit card application then after they did a hard pull on my credit denied me! When I asked why they said I did not have a deposit account with them! I asked why they did not tell me that they required this to get an account and was that they cannot by law try and discourage me from applying.

Needless to say I will never use them for anything else because that was shady to me. If I had not of just gotten my mortgage thru them they would not service that either. I was so mad to take a useless hit on my score.

Re: Wells Fargo CLI

I had a secured WF card for 18 months. When I first got it I hadn't had any credit cards in quite a long time and had several baddies. In fact the only credit line listed on my report was one closed over 5 years earlier and one for 1k opened by accident. It was an overdraft line opened automatically when I started a checking account at Union bank. After 18 months WF unsecured the card and even gave me a 2k cli a couple months later. No hard pulls on conversion or cli. The big factor with WF was likely the preexisting banking relationship. I've had checking/savings accounts with them for 30 years and never had any problems with them. When I decided I needed a CC I just applied for the secured card figuring it was the safest kive my sketchy and extremely thin file.  At the time I didn't even have a FICO score.

As an aside, A few months after opeing the WF card I also opened a Citi secured for 25k. The one with the sweet 4%, 18 mo. CD. It matures next month and Citi just notified me they were unsecuring the account. Good stuff.

I really have to recommend secured cards as a quick way to get back in the game.

I have reestablished credit over the last couple years
so my moniker is, well, rather out of date.

WM Discover $1800, WF Plat 12k, Chase Freedom Siggy18k, Amex Plat (60k H/B), Citi AA EWMC 25k
