At least the only fico i know is transunion and goin up fast , well i think. june 653 , july 666 and now i check august 680. i dont know if try apply for a card or just wait until 700 club.
Hi, Gust. What cards do you have currently, limits and AAoA? Do you need a particular card for anything?
I'd personally wait until 700+, myself, but I don't know how your file looks like, so maybe you might do well with a card now.
Hi , i have walmart and amazon store cards. every card $5,000 limit and util 11% , my aaoa 4 years. For now i just want a card with normal benefits , not great benefits because of my credit i know i cant but something decent.
I got the Chase Freedom with numbers like yours with solid history with synchrony bank gas cards Walmart Lowes etc. If you go for a chase freedom, receive al ow limit, its ok. once your scores improve you can go for the nice card, move limits around.
Yes, if you don't mind taking a gamble with which reporting agency they pull, I'd check the Chase prequalifications, to see if you are prequalified for the Freedom—some people are able to receive the card with 700-below scores. Since the prequal is generally pretty solid, check it out. Same goes for Capital One's prequalification page, if you don't mind the pulls to all agencies—checking the Credit Pulls database, some people are able to get the Quicksilver (1.5% CB) with a similar score range (QuicksilverOne has an annual fee of $39, but will accept lower scores... it's not the best, but hey). These suggestions imply that your other scores will be similar, so they're a gamble. They're both pretty decent (I personally like the Freedom more, but I'm biased as it's my first card, hahaha!).
Some people get Amex cards with ~680 scores, but they tend to pull EX exclusively, so if your EX is lower, the chances aren't great. You can check the prequal anyway, just in case? Still, I'm wary about this suggestion, and personally wouldn't go for it.
If you're intent on having only TU pulled, then I'd suggest Barclays—their easier cards to get are Apple Rewards Visa, and Barclaycard Rewards Mastercard. If you're going for either, I'd personally go for the latter card (Rewards Mastercard), which I believe is 2x CB for gas, groceries and utilities, and 1x on everything else. Again, checking the Credit Pulls database, I see approvals for this one with your score and below, so there's that.
Just some brainstorming; I'm not an expert, but I'd personally go for the Barclays Rewards Mastercard, if not, then definitely wait for 700+. Warning, Barclays can be sensitive to very new accounts. I was told the Rewards Mastercard is very difficult for reports without 6+ months of bank (not store) CC history, so I retract these statements.
I would recommend waiting until you achieve 700 across the board. Good things come to those who wait.

I agree with everything you said except for trying for Barclay's Rewards MC. They like to see experience with a major credit card first (store cards don't count with them), so it's best to wait on the Barclay's app until they have had a credit card for at least 6 months.

Ah, I wasn't aware! Thanks—edited my post.

You didn't have to edit your post. The only reason I knew this about Barclay is because I was denied by them so many times and that was always their reason And the whole reason I tried with them so many times is because I thought they were good for rebuilding and I knew they approved people with lower scores; I just didn't know that they don't like to be your first major credit card. Sometimes I wish lenders would just tell you on the application (before you waste a HP) what the minimum requirement for approval would be. That sure would save us a few unnecessary inquiries
Too bad you only know your Transunion score. There is not much difference between a 680 and 700 to be honest. Both considered good (edit). With the exact same risk ratings. He is right about having a bank card instead of just store cards. and the main Tu pullers are barclays and Synchrony. However, That being said. The apple card which i still have will get you an approval with your 680 no problems. Even without a Bank Card as they are Co branded. you would probably get a good limit as well since you are at 11% util. Good luck what ever you decide to do.
