This won't be a surprise to some, but I was actually denied for a Capital One Venture card in 2017 with excellent scores, decades of flawless payment history, and having been a Capital One customer for over 20 years. I had a $9,175 FrankenCard made up from combining some late 90s and early 00s CapOne cards as well as a few early 00s cards that they bought from other lenders over the years. Having that card bucketed and being denied for the Venture was enough to make me close my final CapOne card, say goodbye, and vow never to return. The same week, they issued several $30,000 Venture cards to people with BKs, lates, much lower income, etc., etc., etc. I was not amused.
The only other denial that I can recall was last February, when I got denied for the Barclaycard Arrival Plus with a 816 due to the 6/24 rule on that card that I was unaware of (I was 3/12, but recon was not successful since I was 10/24 at the time).
And as mentioned at the beginning of the thread, the bane of my existence is that I can never get preapproved for the Credit One NASCAR Card on Credit Karma, but in fairness it often tells me that I have fair or poor odds for most secured and fee-harvester cards, while having very good or excellent odds for things like Chase Sapphire Reserve and Citi Prestige.
But as for cards that I want that I can't get approved for, the only thing that comes to mind is the Chase Marriott Bonvoy Boundless due to 5/24.
@Andypanda wrote:Does that incluse 5/24? I am stuck in Chase purgotory until Nov., when I should be able to apply for the Amzon Visa. Might be interested In the UMB DC card, but from what I have read they are INQ sensitive, so I havn't tried applying, espessaly since I have not seenan approvals on the forums.
There have been a couple of approvals for the DC card but the majority of data points reported on MF including mine have been of denials. A few of us were officially denied due to what UMB classified as an excessive number of open accounts currently held.
It isn't a particularly good card but it does have a pretty high coolness factor so your interest is understandable.

I don't remember ever getting rejected for an offer, but I might have at some point (way, way back). Anything post-1995 were all approved.
I do remember my first prequalify card when I was a junior in college. It was a Visa from a bank in Pleasanton, CA. It had a $29 AF, and the CL today would be up to $12K (using the inflation calculator to figure what today's CL would be). I didn't go for it. I thought I might get rejected for basically having no income and the $29 AF was a bit much for something I'd rarely use.
I don't remember any "we'll get back to you, we need more info" in an app either. The only recent one I ever wondered about a possible rejection was the Propel card, my newest. They appeared to be very selective, they didn't know me, and I already had a handful of cards.
Somebody has to be the first !!
I have never been not approved for a new card.
Of course I don't apply as often as most here.

So yes it could happen to anyone. The only one I ever thought might be denied was my Propel in 2018.
You might be "over-qualified" for the Nascar card. I get poor approval odds for secured cards and sub-primes on Credit Karma. I'm not a good fit I guess. Understandable though.

BoA Premium Rewards card. Funny thing is I already have 2 credit cards with Bank of America. I use to have 3 but I closed one a year ago.
Can't PC one of them? It would be funny if you tried and were told, sorry you cannot PC to that card, any other one you can. You are NOT allowed to have that card!
