Hey all,
I got my first Chase card, an instant approval on their Freedom card, back in Nov 2014 with an SL of $3,000. After 5 or 6 statements I got an auto CLI up to $4,000. It's been stuck there since. I was also approved for their Marriott card in Jan 2015 after a lengthy verification process and since I haven't used that one too much its been at $5,000 since it opened. Lastly, in Aug, I applied for and was instantly approved for their AARP card also at $4,000.
I was hoping a maxing out the Amazon 10% cash back category with holiday purchases in Dec would have triggered another auto CLI, but nothing yet. Since the Freedom card is over a year old now, I'd love to get the card to $5,000 or over so I can upgrade it to a Visa Siggy. My AARP I use frequently for dining, lunches, etc but I'm also taking advantage of a BT offer so I don't expect an auto CLI on that until I get the balance significantly paid down or 100% off.
So that leaves me with two options if I want to bump up any existing card, go for a HP CLI request through Chase, or, option 2 apply for a new card and sacrifice all or some of its SL for my Freedom and AARP card. This one seems to be more popular since you tend to get more bang for your buck. Any recommendations on what would be a good card to open in hopes of a nice SL to give at least $1,000 to my Freedom and another $1,000 to my AARP? I was really hoping for the 140k Ritz offer to pop up, as I'd love another 140,000 Marriott points. Right now, especially with a newborn, I can't justify a $395 AF for 2 nights at a Ritz property. The 140k I can justify as those points don't expire, they might devalue, but no expirations
I had considered the Amazon Visa, but only since Amazon is offering an $80 GC. I've seen that card can be stingy on their SLs. I'd also get no use out of that card beyond sacrificing the SL and the $80 Amazon GC, since I have the Amazon Prime Store card at 5% as well as a Sallie Mae card. United or BA seems like a decent option as I'll be closing my Delta AMEX card in Feb or March and seeing what my PC options are or combining the limit into my BCP. Anyway open to thoughts...
Thanks,
Oz
I've had better luck with just opening new cards and then combining the limits. HP CLI's haven't been successful for me; plus with the new card, you can reap the bonus rewards, wait for a $0 balance statement to cut and then just combine limits.

I just did this wth my Ritz card (close it and they transferred all remaining CL). I have found Chase was good to me when I was hitting the cards super hard and PIF. This got me nice auto CLI's on my Marriott and then Ritz.
Until the Ritz 140 appears, that is only a hope.
You like Marriott points, are you using that card for dining to get the 2 points? The Marriott is already Visa Signature.
What advantage do you foresee with a Freedom card as VS?
It sounds like you are already nearing your internal limit with Chase, due to needing to recon / follow up to get approval on the Marriott.
Are you you signed up for United frequent flyer program? I have gotten a couple of postal mailers in the last year or so by using the United dining link, which leverages certain restaurants to earn miles in a program. Those mailers were for 50,000 miles, usually better than the 30k standard offer, so worth some effort to try to trigger such an offer. The United card may provide a good limit to work with.

I was using the Marriott for a while for the 2 points on Dining, but after seeing what Marriott points were valued at I switched to another card, and then the Chase AARP.
Chase seems to like pulling EXP for me. Since Aug, my income has almost doubled and my EXP jumped from 682 to 723. I was probably at my internal limit then in Aug, I hope not now.
I do have a United FF account, not many miles on it, heard of their deal with the restaurants, haven't signed up yet though. May need to check with United for better offers on bonus/signup miles and/or enroll in the restaurant thingy.

EDIT: Just checked my United FF account, I do have a 50k offer there...
Just opening a new card and hoping it's a high CL isn't going to do much. Your credit profile, income and internal limit with Chase is ultimately going to determine what kind of limits you get. If you get a lower limit than previous application approvals, then that will tell you all you need to know.
Figured I'd throw caution to the wind and give the United app a shot with Chase on Sat the 9th, got the 30 day email and the phone message has been "we'll notify you with in 30 days in writing".
Logged into Chase tonight and noticed my scroll bar looked longer than normal...
I'm glad I didn't call and get anyone's attention

Nice Congrats!!!!!
