What Credit Card(s) should I apply for?

I am planning on going on an "app spree" after we close on our house at the end of this month.  My scores have gone up quite a bit in the last few months (see my scores in my siggy) and I want to get a few cards to keep going forward.

EQ
     0 collections Smiley Very Happy
     15 inquiries (9 mortgage)

EX
     3 collections (1 paid - 1 gone in 12/08 $1000 - 1 two years old $350)
     17 inquiries (10 mortgage)

TU
     2 collections (1 paid - 1 gone in 12/08 $1000)
     12 inquiries (8 mortgage)

Here are the cards I have now:

JCP since 05/04 0% utl
Orchard since 04/07 75% utl
Target since 07/07 12% utl
TOTAL UTL 23%

My two questions are (1) how many cards should I apply for and (2) what cards should I apply for?

Some of the ones I was thinking about are Hooters, Macys, Juniper (carnival miles), CCCU, Lowes and/or Home Depot, and a gas credit card (QuikTrip maybe).

I'd love your suggestions!  Thank you.

Cathleen

Re: What Credit Card(s) should I apply for?

Cathleen, I'd get the utils wayyyyyyy down on the Orchard card before applying for anything. That in itself will hurt you. And getting the balance down will probably cause your scores to jump up, which will help even further.

The Hooter's card is an excellent choice. CCCU even better, imo. Lowe's or H.G. good choice in the mix too. Macy's will require scores in the 600's I think. Like above 630 or so.

Good luck to you! Smiley Happy

Sylvia- in regards to the Macy's I got it yesterday with scores less 600 (see below). They gave me an initial $1k.

Wow! Congrats Nicki!! That's great. When I applied last December, they wanted to give me $300, but I talked them into $600 opening cl. You did a LOT better than I did.

I stand corrected. Thanks Nicki for saying that. Smiley Happy
