What To Do Now?

So I recently was approved for the CapOne Platinum Mastercard, got a 3000$ limit, and just received it in the mail. Should I garden with it for a little while, or would it be better to apply for a couple more cards now and then get to gardening? The CapOne is my first credit card, and I'm not really sure how to proceed. If I should apply for a couple more cards, which ones would you suggest?

Thanks Smiley Very Happy

Re: What To Do Now?

I'm not sure of my scores, as I've just gotten my first card and haven't ever purchased them from myFico, however, my creditkarma score is 620. I have no baddies on any of my 3 reports, and I have 8 open accounts (all of which are deferred student loans, totalling around 9000 dollars) plus the capone I just opened which isn't on there yet. After just checking my adverse action report for being denied a student card from BOA, i see in the last 6 months i've had 5 inqs, so I guess applying right now isn't a great idea.

Re: What To Do Now?

Eh, I'd definitely start by buying your EQ and TU FICO scores from here at least. That CreditKarma score is ok and all but it doesn't mean much (it's like apples and oranges, really.)

Some lenders are more inquiry sensitive then others. Also, what credit bureau did BoA pull? That report might have 5 inquiries, but you can always app for cards that pull one of the other two which may have less.

Re: What To Do Now?

BOA pulled EX. EX is the one with 5 inquiries, I'm having trouble with my EQ online, so it's being mailed to me, and my TU has 3 inqs in the past 6 months.

Re: What To Do Now?

Definately garden; possible apply for amex zync. Amex doesn't care about inqs.

Re: What To Do Now?

I've applied for zync, got denied. D: said too many inquiries. lol...

xD I'll garden a bit I guess, unless there's some super easy card to get that is unsecured. I just didn't know if gardening with one card really made a difference.

Re: What To Do Now?

Garden for sure you need to take a break and just use the card you have now but try to PIF each month and give it another go after about a year or so, you should try to join a credit union if your not already a memeber somewhere.

Re: What To Do Now?

Gardening it is. And I have the credit steps program so maybe after 6 months they'll give me a CLI, though I'm not sure since I read somewhere the Cap1 platinum max limit is 3k.

And I am a member of a CU, my mom opened me a savings account with IBM SE in 1993, I'm currently filling out my forms for returning the account from dormant status (last transaction in 1997 Smiley Tongue   ) So we'll see what happens there. I'll try to build more history with them.

Re: What To Do Now?

Your off to a great start!  Hardest part of credit is to garden but it's well worth the effort and hard sweat  you put into it! haha!  O' man not everyone can do it!
