What a Difference 35 Days Can Make!!!!

Just a quick success story to share on my TU score.  I won't bore you with the details but here's the transition.

2/28/08  -  509
4/3/08    -  682

That's a 173 point increase in 35 days!!!

Once again, thanks to everyone here for their great advice and for sharing the gory details of their rebuilding efforts.  This site is an excellent example of near real time collaboration on the web and the power of information sharing.

Not only are my scores up across the board, but I have 3 new CC's with $40K in limits, a home loan refinance from 8% to 6%, and a new car loan.  Now I can wait out the last of my baddies (16 months), let my new accounts marinate and look forward to some new PRIME relationships in the fall of 2009.

Edited to add the tracking history......  Smiley Very Happy

Hiya Tex. Congratulations! I was wondering, did you just have a bunch of flat out wrongly reported items on your reports? It's taken me about 8 months to see similar results.

Re: What a Difference 35 Days Can Make!!!!

I did have 2 items that were incorrect and reporting past the 7yr mark and needed to be deleted.  The rest are as follows:
  • 3 Charge Off's for CC's in 2003 that were reporting balances when they had been included in my Ch 13 BK in 2003.  Disputed that balances should be zero, and they all updated to zero balance.  Also disputed them as "never late".  Two of them updated by removing all late payments, the other came back "verified".
  • Had a boat that had to go back to the lender in 2004 as part of the financial restructuring, which was showing up as 120+ day late, mulitple months, with status as "lender paid by original merchant that sold goods", meaning the boat dealership guaranteed the note and had to pay the bank.  I disputed as never late, and while the late's didn't come off, the current status was changed to "pays as agreed, current".
  • I did a PFD for 6 items with one CA (stupid Flex-Pay with QVC in 2004) that totaled $2100.  Offered them 50%, pay immediately if you delete, and they accepted.  Items were deleted witin a week.
  • This one is strange.  My cars were included in the BK filing, but we continued to pay direct with the lender.  When we entered BK in '03, we were 90 days late on both cars.  Once we filed, we made our payments on time for the next 3 years, but the CU was reporting us 90 days late every month for 3 years.  They never "reset the clock" when we filed BK because they were never paid the back payments, they just allowed us to be 90 days late moving forward.  When I noticed it in mid-'06, I called them and asked them WTH?  I've made payments on time for 3 years and your reporting me late every month.  They would not update the CRA's, so I told them to come pick up both cars immediately (still had 18 months left @ high interest and high payments).  They countered with, "how 'bout we let you refinance both cars into a lower APR over 36 months to get you some payment relief and get your CRA's current with your new payment"?  Agreed, which really helped us with monthly cash flow and allowed us to take the left over money to create buffer savings and charge stuff to new CC's to build new TL's and get our credit back in order (PIF or VERY close now, of course).
  • Disputed mortgage lates from '04 as "never late" (this was after a GW letter to them which they denied), TU deleted the entire TL from my CRA.  WEIRD!!!  I'm guessing it will show back up when the mortgage company reports the next month's on-time payment, just not sure what history will come back (if any).
  • Finally, disputed every other account that had any negative reporting information, some were updated to "current, never late" some were not, but it got some positive results.

I still have some work to on Equifax (650) and Ex (605, they are soooo hard to work with), but making great progress across the board.  My BK falls of in Nov of 2010 and the rest of the baddies that I couldn't get changed/removed fall off by Aug '09.

I am exercising my "patience is a virtue" motto daily for the next 19 months until the BK comes off and then I will really be READY FOR PRIME TIME!  Smiley Tongue
