Hi,
New to the board and just want to say thanks! All the info here is great and it's a great resource.
So, while in college I did a number on my credit (it was down in the 580 range in 2006-2007). However, after years of not using any credit, and paying everything on time, I've gotten my scores up in the 680's. Equifax is 679, Experian is 683, and I'm not sure what the TU is.
I have a couple "charged off" accounts on my CR from 2006 and 2007, and also a negative account from a bank account that I overdrew around that time. The total amounts for these are around $1000 for all. I have 3 recent inquiries, one for a Capital One card I was approved at $1000 for, another for cable, and one for a Citibank card that I was stupid and applied for (declined).
Does anyone know of a card with a decent interest rate that I would have a decent chance of getting approved for now? The Capital One card has a rate of 24.99%, so I just pay it off each month in full and barely use it. I should realistically just wait 6-12 months and let the inquiries/collections age - however I just wanted to get a little feedback. Thanks in advance!
Also - my oldest account is 39 years due to a my father's paid off/closed Sears card that is showing on all my reports. I figured it was helping so I left it there. I'm really looking for a card that will help my increase my utilization. I've been reading alot about AMEX cards here - would this be an option for me at some point?
Thanks again!
I would stick with your plan of wating a year or so and checking your score then. Since Capital One gave you and unsecured card that is a very good sign. I would get some history with that and maybe look at a BoA card 6-12 months from now
I'll also add - my oldest account is 39 years. I'm only 34 however my fathers paid off/closed Sears card is somehow showing on all my reports oddly enough. I figured it is helping my score so I have left it there.
