54k a year as a full time student is pretty good. And tough. I worked at my college cafeterria, 15 hours a week, and it was too much.

I wonder though if there is some type of limit a person can have compared to income?

haha thanks, yeah it sucks but I don't want to have any debt when I graduate so I'm working 40+ hours a week during the day, and taking 12-14 credits at night or online. If I don't screw anything up, should be done with the bachelors in 2.5 more years.

There is definitely a ceiling, but it varies with your overall credit profile/history etc, and from lender to lender. I've seen people with 50-60k incomes who are able to get 30k or more on a single card, though I would imagine that at some point overall available credit will be an issue.
