What card should I get?

Hello! I just passed my 6 month mark of building credit. My oldest account is a self lender loan that’s 6 months old, my next account is a green dot platinum secured card that is 4 months, and I have a discover it secured that’s 3 months old. My FICO score is 690. I was wanting to start building my credit card base but I have no idea where to begin or what I’d qualify for. Can anyone provide me some advice? Thanks in advance!

Hi Welcome to the forums!

Ideally, you want 3 cards and a loan to help maximize your score. There are 3 scores (EQ, EX, TU). Ideally, you wanna have all 3. I would check prequals for Cap1 and Amex. If nothing there, I would check out Fingerhut and OpenSky. Do you have any baddies/negatives that are holding your score back?

No I don’t have any negatives holding my score back. The two sections I’m doing poor in is age of credit history and credit inquiries.

On that note, I would get either one of the cards mentioned above, or if you have any prequals. Then garden for a bit so you can develop some age on them.

I would wait a while and build up a track record with the 2 cards you already have. Wait until your FICO 8 scores are at 700 or more across the board and then come back to us. Give thought to the type of card you would get the most use out of.

This.

Credit building is a marathon, not a sprint. I know people who have gone routes that include Credit One, but I found patience to work for me. I probably wouldn't do anything until your Disco graduates, hopefully at the 7 month mark. (I was in your shoes too and very antsy! Check out the garden as it may help you!)

Thanks and I was wanting to avoid credit one and cards similar to them at all cost
