What card to get next?

Right now I have no marks or anything on my credit report.  I have had a Discover Secured card for 6 months and I am going to getting my 7th statement next month.  With that, I will be in their system for them to review my account and hopefully move me to an unsecured it card.  With Discover and what they may do with my account, what card should I apply for next in my situation?  I plan to wait until next month to do anything.  My credit scores from Credit Karma are 691.  I have never used more than 20% of my credit line as well.

Sign up for discovers creditscorecard.com

Post that score along with the Transunion FICO score given when you log into your discover credit card.

Re: What card to get next?

Because I had no history when I got the Discover card, they don't show the score until the 7th statement so for me that will be next month.  It is unavailable until then.

Re: What card to get next?

Yeah, you want to have FICO scores rather than the VantageScores provided by Credit Karma. I'm guessing your scores are fine, though.

With one card with six months history, you should be positioned for a handful of good cards from good lenders. However, it's too soon for Chase. Smiley Happy In your situation, I'd prioritize a MasterCard or Visa because of the better acceptance over Discover. And you definitely want unsecured products.

Capital One will have a high probability of approval. Check their pre-qual site. Be aware that they'll pull all three bureaus if you apply, but there won't be any more hard pulls on that card. Bank of America is another possibility. And the credit unions. I'm sure I'm missing something, but people are bound to chime in soon.

Re: What card to get next?

Great!  What about AMEX? Give you list specific cards you think I should look into that I would get approved for?

Re: What card to get next?

Being so new to credit. You will most likely have to wait until a year of history for chase or Amex and it still might be iffy for another 6 months or until you have atleast one more account reporting for 6 months.

You can try amex Prequalified and see if anything pops up. I would suspect you won’t get any Prequalified Offers atleast until you have a FICO score.

Capital one is a good company for starter cards. They have a Prequalified site as well
They might offer you a card right now.

Re: What card to get next?

The acceptance rate for AMEX is a little less than that of Discover. And with one card, they'd probably want to see a little more history. It doesn't hurt to start checking their pre-qual site, though.

Re: What card to get next?

I did do the AMEX pre-qual and they did give me the Delta and Hilton cards.  I would prefer to not have a card with an annual fee and if I do remember currently both of the AMEX cards I was prequalified for have an annual fee.  The reason I'd prefer not to have an annual fee right now is that I do not charge very much on my cards because I do not spend that much.  I just want to have a card that gets good rewards and also that I can get a limit that is 4 figures if possible?

Re: What card to get next?

I assume it’s the Delta Gold card you are speaking of. It’s fairly easy to get. The annual fee is waived the first year. You can always downgrade it to the Blue no AF version after a year.

What kind of rewards are you looking to get ? Cash back , Credit card points, airline/hotel miles ?

Re: What card to get next?

Yeah, that sounds like the right card.  What is the Blue card you were speaking of?  That is an idea.  I like cash back or rewards points the most.
