Seriously though, bring the Arrival +. That one really saved my bacon on a recent month-long trip abroad in machines that refused all my other cards as they needed a PIN.
Do I need to set up pin numbers on my credit cards? I don't recall having done that in the past. I can do that with the prestige as well correct?

I don't think the Prestige is a Chip & Pin card? I don't have one but I haven't ever noticed a picture of one having a chip. If it's not chip & pin then the pin number you set is only for ATM cash advances (as far as I know), which might not be good enough if something requires a chip card.

How do I tell. Just look for the square chip on the cards? Seems silly that a card designed to be a premium travl card would not have a feature that would make it useful internationally.

I was reading some posts where people are saying there is a hidden 5% charge in the currency exchange with the arrival+ vs the venture card. Did you check the math in the billing? Also, it looks like I can request an upgrade to chip & pin for my prestige and cap 1 venture.
How big of an issue is this chip & pin stuff in asia. Is it going to make my credit cards useless? This could be a problem. Or is it just going to be small random things like vending machines?
Just spoke to citi to see if prestige comes with chip & pin and the CSR said it does.

Well there's Chip & Pin and there's Chip & Signature. I don't really understand why everything isn't just on one or the other, perhaps others here have more input on that. But most cards are only Chip & Sig, most of my cards (in my signature) have chip & sig, but only the Wells Fargo and PenFed cards actually have chip & pin. I don't know how much of a concern it really is, but apparently chip & pin can be important in some countries.
If the card has Chip & Pin it will usually come with a slip of paper talking about the pin function, and you will also be given a pin number or asked to set one. My Wells Fargo gave me a pin that I cannot change, the PenFed let me select a pin once the application was finalized. It does look like the Barclay Arrival+ has Chip & Pin, so if you don't know your pin for that I'd call them up and find out or set one. Also confirm that it is indeed chip & pin for international use.

I just called cap 1 and they are sending me a chip & signature card. I voiced my concern that it may not work in asia and she indicated that as long as it has the chip it will. I have no idea but I guess a card with a chip is better than a card without a chip at least.
I'd bring the Venture, Arrival + and Hyatt Visa.
