Re: What do you guys consider a high limit.

Yes, but the question of the thread is "what do you consider a high limit" so the answer is going to be the opinion of the poster, obviously, and it's going to depend on whether they are single, a family of 2, family of 6, etc. A high limit to me is indeed $10k and that's enough. For a family of 4, maybe that's not enough. It's all relative.

Re: What do you guys consider a high limit.

@elim I think for me it's easier that way. Next year I'll consolidate all my chase cards and that'll be 25k. Next year I'll also get and amex BCP and do the 3x until I hit 25k and I'll be done. That'll be my 2 25k card right there, I'm also thinking of upgrading to the amex plat but I don't know at this point. They need to add more perks!

True, but your actual quote was:

I think for most people are general spend card doesn't need to be over $10k. Category rewards cards can be lower without much of a problem. Your once-in-awhile, low APR, emergency card/util buffer/whatever should be a high limit to be useful for that purpose, meaning $10k or so, IMO.

so yes, your opinion, but appliied more generally

Re: What do you guys consider a high limit.

I didn't mean to write it in such a way of "it will work for everybody", which I guess is how it came across, but I did add IMO at the end to convey that it's just how I feel and it's not gonna work for every situation or person. Either way, $10k is enough for me, being single. For a family, a "high limit" may be something approaching $15k.

Disagree. For family 25K is much more suitable.

Re: What do you guys consider a high limit.

Depends, as always, on level of spend and number of people in said family, and income

Re: What do you guys consider a high limit.

If someone has a income of $2,000 and their credit limit is $1,500 might be enough for them. But if you tell someone you have $1,500 CL they will think it's a toy limit. I think people like anything over 10K then they get that feeling you have excellent credit,

The most useful limit is the highest one with the best rewards.

Re: What do you guys consider a high limit.

I consider a high limit on a single card to be anything 20k+. To me high means just that, high, not only good. I consider credit card limits to start being good when they are around 10k and I consider limits of 5k+ to be decent.

5k is high for me. My income is middle of the road at 63k but my spend is low and I dont purchase much outside of regular bills. If I can get BCE to 10k next month thats as high as I'll ever need on any card Smiley Very Happy

Keep it up! I'm guessing you're investing those hard earned money instead? Smiley Very Happy
