What does Chase like?

Hello everyone, I just got approved for my first Chase card a few days ago. So I was curious, what does Chase like? I was approved for two baby Amex limits the same day via SP so I'll be gardening for some time to avoid spooking Chase when they report.

What else does Chase like? I PIF, but may carry a small Disco balance from time to time on a 0% promo. I already have my bank account linked but may just pay from my Chase account. Any little nuances?

What does Chase like? In terms of general usage or for a CLI? What Chase likes is what most banks like-usage. Chase doesn't seem to mind balances, balance trasfers etc. What Chase does not like is manufactured spend (can't discuss that here, look it up in Google if you don't already know what it is).

There have been some people here that have reported that after a large score drop and increased balance that their cards have been shut down. But if you do not partake in large balances and decreasing scores you should be fine.

In terms of a CLI with Chase....usually Chase will do one auto CLI within the first year of cardmembership. One. When Venus and Mercury align and you've updated your income with them as well as find a three-legged ballerina, you may get an auto CLI after the first year. YMMV.  Otherwise, all CLI's at your request will be a HP.

If you are interested in another Chase card down the road, make sure you are aware of their 5/24 rule which means that if you have opened five new credit cards (including a Chase card) in the past 24 months they will decline an application for a new card. They do pre-approvals in branch and online that appear to circumvent this, but as always, YMMV.

Re: What does Chase like?

For the most part, Chase is simply going to want to see responsible credit usage. You've done the hard part, which is gettig the card to begin with.

I'm not sure how much detail Discover puts on your reports about balances. But Chase may not be able to tell if you're carrying the balance or paying in full. Either way, if the balance is "small" like you've described, you'll be fine.

Re: What does Chase like?

Yes thank you, I have a thick file but relatively limited revolving history. I was shocked with their approval.

I'm not super concerned with CLIs given that the limit is massive compared to the rest. The auto would be nice. It seems as though Chase found something in my file that they liked. I've seen lots with 5/24, which I'm way over, and green check marks. I'll be watching for some but waiting several months to consider it. The other new cards won't report for some time so I should be able to show them usage and PIF with more than one payment a month before then.

Just making sure I'm not missing anything to make a great first impression. Of course, I'll make the card work for me not the other way around.

I swear when you originally posted you didn't have that signature....or I didn't notice....at any rate, I would argue you have already made a good impression with Chase by being approved in the first place considering the small limits on your other cards. Usually, Chase does not like to be the first $5,000+ CL for a customer. You have proven that to be incorrect!

I look forward to your post in the near future letting us know about your 3X CLI's with your AMEX cards Smiley Wink

Re: What does Chase like?

Lol thanks. That was the signature when I posted originally. So nothing to worry about with the additional cards and just keep doing what I'm doing? I'll definitely post about Amex on 7/11 when my accounts are eligible. I was floored with this Chase approval. I'd read the same about 5k limits but figured it was worth the attempt.

Absolutely. Nothing to worry with the other cards other than keep reporting utilization below 30% accross all cards and even per card. Then, in July try to get those AMEX's bumped up and you are good to go.

Congrats on that Chase card!

What the OP has "proven" is that Chase may make exceptions. Smiley Happy What you say about Chase not "usually" being the bank to give one his highest limit would be accurate.

Chase has also been known to very occasionally give a customer his first card with very little history. But even with the occasional exception, we still have to advise people that they face a high probability of denial under these types of circumstances.

The one scenario we've found to be somewhat safe is if one has built up some history with one of the Freedom cards. If an applicant has done that, it's not quite as unusual for Chase to hand out one's highest limit by approving a CSP.

Re: What does Chase like?

Chase is known for chasing the "rich" cardholders who show good spending.  They give you fat bonus to get you to spend their cards.  Chase does not like folks with thin files.  Also, Chase will allow you to keep several cards since they know that folks chase the rewards.

Re: What does Chase like?

Thank you. There seems to be something Chase likes about my file. They gave me a massive limit with no history with them. Possibly heavy use and PIF always. I'm hoping with some history I'll see green checkmark offers for the FU and CSR or CSP. My file has cleaned up alot and only improves at this point.
