Ok for all my gardeners I app for Walmart, I’m sorry I was helping my friend get one and in the midst of it I app also
, ok we both were denied. She called Barclays four times the last women she spoke was very nice and said that she has no credit cards and need at least one credit card and she needs to manage it for 6-8 months. I was a good girl and remain control and did not app for Barclays because I know better. My friend has two inquires. I was able to get her Cap1 to start her off, she has a sallie mae student loan that she was 30days late twice and a paid Macys charge off that will do to fall off next year. Walmart didn’t give a reason for her but I called four times to Recon for myself and they pulled Transunion and Experian since my score is higher and still denied me. Here are the reason
My internal Walmart score for GE is 406 Scores range from a low of 300 to a high of 620.
Honestly I had no business apping and I should know better. I thought I would get approve since my scores were higher and I see some have gotten Walmart with lower scores than me. While I go back to Garden, what does Barclays and Walmart look for , what should or shouldn't I have on my report to get my foot in the door. FYI I am on a Barclays Acct as an AU. I have a paid collection that is due to fall off next year. One was just added from my college university which I am working on PFD .Please help me get in Barclays and Walmart door. I cant understand how people have such low scores for Walmart. I have a co worker that use to work for GE Capital years ago and she said to me that sometimes you are better off apping in the store, because sometimes the store wants more and new customers so they can override certain criterias and get approved. She said apping online is systematic and in store apps are more prone to what the store wants, when I am ready I am going to the store. Each Walmart store has a criteria on who they will approve. Please tell mw what she be my game plan
HI-
In my opinion, you probably will need to wait until your credit score/report improves quite a bit to get either card. I just got approved for a Barclays card (Rewards Mastercard) Sunday with a $1300.00 credit limit after having been rejected three times previously over the past year or so. My scores are around 652 at this time. I paid off nearly all of my credit cards to dramatically lower my utilization before I app'd. I have also not missed a payment on anything for nearly four years. I have some old baddies (over 5 years) on my report from a car accident I was in back in 2007. I know Barclay's has a reputation for being inquiry sensitive, too. Barlclay's seems to be pretty nitpicky, so I'd put that one on the backburner for a while.
As far as Walmart, I've had their store card since February. My score was in the low 600s when I got that one and it took me a while to get that one, as well. GE Money Bank, which manages the Walmart card, is in the process of removing itself from the consumer credit card market, so I imagine they are probably cutting back on their approvals and CLIs for low credit score/riskier consumers.
If you don't already have a capital one card, start out with one of theirs. You can most definitely get one of their secured cards. Start building a little bit at a time and pay your bills on time. Collections have a terrible effect on your credit score and it takes some time and a consistent positive payment history to recover after your credit report has been hit with one.
Gool luck and happy rebuilding.
I applied 3 times for Walmart card and got denied. Then opened two GE cards with Paypal Smart Connect & Amazon store card. Having them in good status for 3/4 months and then re-applied for Walmart again in september. Got approved instantly for $500. Low limit but i rarely shop at Walmart. Wanted the card for the free FICO score mostly. I would say Walmart store card is not very easy to get if the derogatory information on your reports are too recent.
Wal-Mart isn't that hard to get. I've had somewhat recent baddies and they gave me a $500 CL. You just need to let whatever derogs. you have age a little.
Jmills,
Do you even have an idea of what is on your credit report? Looking at that list, I can just about surmise as to why you were declined for the Walmart card. Not to sound rude or anything but I suspect the following are the reasons:
1. Using to much credit. (balance in relation to available credit is to high)
2. Recent collections/public records
If any of these are in the last 2 years, you won't have a favorable outcome. Address these and let what accounts you do have age some and you may get lucky with a recon.
Current Scores - 12/27/2024
FICO 8
EQ - 689
TU - 731
EXP - 717
I know I couldn't get Walmart until some of my derogs aged some.
My most recent baddie is from 2010...I was approved at a 635 with $600 CL.
Only one more statement and I go for CLI. Yay!

Every profile is different and why some lower scores are approved and others are declined are based on a several factors. Credit scores is not the only criteria. Baddies, income, overall credit history. Based on the list you were given, your baddies and utilization need to be addressed. Apping in a store will not override the number of accounts past due, in collections or high util. Managing your debt and not seeking more debt until you can manage more debt may be the best thing for you right now.
+1 JMills I couldn't have said it better
BTW I need to see you in my garden office
