What does it take to get AMEX?

I really want to try for an AMEX but im scared Im going to try sometime next year. I was wondering score wise what I would need and what kind of history they are looking for. How many inq's and accounts?

I started getting pre-approvals for their Green and Gold cards early this year after my scores rose to the high 680's to 690's with a clean payment history for the last 2.5 years.  I didn't actually apply for the gold card until this month when I had low 700's with a 3 year clean history, but not because I was scared, I just couldn't justify getting one before.  I still have 48 lates (including 12 90+ day lates), but they are all over 3 years old and had only 1-2 inquiries in the last 12months.  I only have 2 open CCs and 1 store card with another 6 CC accounts that are closed.  People with far more cards and inquiries have gotten approval.

For the latest I would check whogavemecredit.com and look only in the last 4-6 months when the credit crunch has really hit. A green card is not that hard to obtain and you may consider their delta revolver card too.

Thats pretty amazing. My scores are now in the 650's im going to wait until they are fairly closer to 700 before I apply. I know its a pretty good card to have. Hopefully I will get offers soon myself. In February my fico was 445 and now its 655 and im just waiting for some really good offers.

What does it take? It takes about 6 shots of tequila and a dare from all of your closets friends to get up the nerve to apply with AmEx and risk walking on shells for the rest of your life in fear of them chasing your balance, wanting your income history for the past 10 years and ultimately closing your account because they don't like that you got a mortgage after getting their CC.

AmEx fudges with people way too much right now. I wouldn't even think about them until you at least know they've stopped treating their customers like employees fresh outta the pen and on parole for first-degree larceny!

Getting a card from AMEX is not the real question it's how to keep the card when you get in. AMEX is a funny animal

Why do people want AmExes anyway? You can get better terms on a Visa. Is it just for the prestige? Or is there a reason to want 1 Visa, 1 MC, 1 Disc, 1 AmEx?
