Well like I said it's been 7 years since I dealt with Providan so I haven't paid much attention that they got bought out.  I am sure Wamu has the record of the old charge off.  Oh well just glad I didn't mess myself up with BoA.

Re: What is Exclusive Pre-Approved offer from Wamu means?

Concord keep us posted. a few weeks ago I hit the preappr button on the website to see if I qualified. I got a letter in the mail saying that they cannot open an account because I had a providian that was closed and not kept in good standing. Well that was totally false, I dont know where they got that from because on all my cr's I have an old providian that was in GOOD standing and closed due to inactivity. I thought wth? So I called them on friday and told them they were wrong , they pulled up my app/file and agreed with me! Was sent down to credit dept for review and will notify me in 7-10 days...We'll see what kind of bs denial they'll use now! They also pulled a hard tu on friday!

Excellent to know.  I closed a prov card w/ a balance about 3 years ago and promptly PIF.  (I was mad at them.)  I'm sure I had a few 30 day lates, but my CR just shows PIF.  Please keep us posted!

Re: What is Exclusive Pre-Approved offer from Wamu means?

Here's my experience with WAMU:

Hubby had not one, but TWO Providian derogatories. Both cards were included in BK and show as 'derog" on his CR.

18 months ago, WAMU sent him a "preapproved up to $10,000" offer. He called to apply and told them he wanted to know the CL before he would accept the card. Guy told him to list the BTs that he wanted, to get a higher CL.

Card shows up with a $500 limit. Hubby was so PO'd that he called and cancelled it. CS rep. told him they'd already done a lousy $250 BT to one of the cards on the list, so we just paid the minimum for the 6 month 0% time period, and then paid it off. The card was closed the day it was activated (by hubby).

A few weeks ago, after shredding "preapproval" offer after preapproval offer for months, we finally decided to try again. Approved for $3,500.00; 0% BT for one year.

Now, this is all with TWO Providian derogs on his report and after we opened and closed a WAMU account on the same day. lol.

I know everyone says that with a Providian issue, you can't get a WAMU card, but I have to say my experience has been otherwise.

Re: What is Exclusive Pre-Approved offer from Wamu means?

WaMu is all over the board on how they treat people.

I've had an old Providian card for 8 years, with a cl of $3,200 for the longest time. In Feb. 2007 they decreased my cl to $1,320. No notification...nothing. It was by chance I noticed it on the statement. The current balance was within the old cl, but OVER the new limit due to the cld.

I had 2 lates with them....both 30 day lates: Nov.2006 & Feb. 2007. I had never gone over the cl, but the lates caused the APR to escalate to the default rate of 31.99%. I still have the card(one of my oldest), and still use it, but for obvious reasons PIF it.

In October I received a pre-approval for a WaMu Visa. As I had been doing some cleaning up of the CR's I thought why not? I applied, and was approved for an opening cl of $6,500. I almost fainted. And that was with mediocre FICO scores in the 630-655 range.

If there is a method to their madness, I sure can't figure it out.
