I know some of you have like 7 AMEX Cards and like 5 Discover cards and I'm so jelly (also inspired) but for me and my position in life at this time, just having one amex card would be a huge milestone. I've never been worth an amex in my entire life. Someday I will be though, mark my words, I'll be here to celebrate it.
This kind of made me sad to read. I don't want to sound all kumbaya here, but please do not value your worth on whether or not American Express finds you valuable. You are worth way more than any credit card. Just had to say that.
It is like when people say they are dog owners or that they bought a dog. It makes me cringe. I prefer that I adopted a dog and I am a dog dad.
Your credit may not have qualified for an American Express in the past but you are working to improve your credit so that you may have one eventually.
But to answer your original question: I am at the point where I have no more goal cards. My goal card was the USAA Limitless Cash Rewards card and I attained that in 2017.
Good luck with your goal of the Amex. I know that you will do it!

I want a card from the bank I have been doing the BULK of my banking with, who I have been with longer than any other bank (decades) : CHASE (current desired CC: CFF)
When I got into the CC game, I knew nothing about 5/24 and its because of that rule I have no CHASE card yet.
I am currently 298-days away from being officially UNDER 5/24, but I am sure that will get pushed further back and a CHASE card will elude me some more.
Maybe 2023, we'll see.
My goal card is the US Bank altitude resurve for the 3x (with a 1.5 multipleler) for mobile wallets.

Lol, i think the 5/24 is stressed so much for many but if one looks at what they need or want and dont need a Chase card , to not let Chase control how you use/manage your credit. Their are so many fish in the sea, that avoiding a Shark isnt that hard once you realize where not to swim.

Very well said @BearsCubsOtters - what a great way to look at life larger than the narrow minded people that seem to annoy us....
I agree - why let one lender cause you to feel less ?
Was so focused on the negativity of Chase cards (2 recent denials) I was tempted to rant but then your post @BearsCubsOtters made me re-think why should I waste time with that when I have suceeded thru this forum, it's members to rebuild and come out stronger with tons more credit, lower APR loans, tier 1 rates, etc...
And yes, I have adopted - always got my dogs at the shelter and rescued 3 of my dogs - they make the best companions every day!

It will happen once you figure out what you really want out of cards and realize you can get by with what you have. The problem is, on this site everyone is always trying to maximize every cent of spend. Sometimes even applying for cards that will rarely be used just to make a buck or two every few months. I got to a point where I realized opening a card to make maybe $15 in a year just wasn't worth it to me. Realized the other day I'll be under 5/24 in June. Never thought that day would come.
This has been a very cool thread to read. Many of us have scratched and clawed our way back to good credit and it's thanks to hard work and, oftentimes, some excellent advice from this fantastic board.
My goal card for the longest time was the Blue Cash Preferred and I finally got it this past summer! My next goal card is the US Bank Alt Reserve. It's going to take some serious discipline though. No new credit card accounts until January 2023. Hope I can hold out.
I know you both mean well but just to clarify, I'm not saying I'm worthless as a human being. I'm saying my credit has never been worth an Amex. I'm not narrow minded, I just place Amex on a high threshold of credit goals as in a huge milestone to one day reach in my life.

I agree with you, in theory. But it depends on each individual's goals. I'm at a point where I don't need more cards right now. It's certainly in my best interest to garden for a while and let my many inquiries fade into the past and my new cards age a bit. I decided a while back that a Chase system is right for me. Maybe not even a "trifecta," but a duo of the CFF and CSP. (I'm all about cash-back outside of that.) The timing works out. I need to garden - not for Chase, but for me. A little extra gardening will get me under 5/24, and it's a goal to help motivate me to stay in the garden. I have cards to cover my needs and can hold out for that CSP for the points multiplication it brings. I got the CFF in May and have not spent a single Ultimate Rewards point. They don't expire and I'm saving them for when the CSP makes them more valuable.
@kittycreditmeow apologies if I meant otherwise, but I was referring to my post for myself - I personally felt subjugated by Chase in my personal and business quest for their credit.

Now I know that Chase is not the only player in town so I have found other lenders who believe in me.
As for Amex, they are like Chase - big bank mentality and if you don't fit into their ideal client profile, I learned from @BearsCubsOtters - it's not terrible at all.
