What is a "thin file" for Discover?

I'm considering them for my 3rd prime card. (Cap1Secured,Amex) since I received a Prequalify offer with an actual percentage rate on their website.  When people say a "thin file", would a year of credit history and 3 cards already be too high? Am I better off with them as my third card than fourth?

CareCredit is next on my list but would like a 3rd bank card first. And I know it's too soon for Chase..gardening and will try them after a year.

They approved me three months back with only six months with my Cap1 card and a 650's Credit score.

Nice. So does anyone get approved after the 1 year mark?

I was approved with 1.5 years history and 4 prime cards (CapOne Journey, USAA AmEx, Chase Marriott, AmEx BCE). I had the same pre-qualification with a definite APR.

My advice is to go for it. I can't think of any creditor that would deny you for a file being too thick.

Discover likes a score reporting thin files (and clean) ... except if your a student and if they can generate a decent new account score for you they will approve based on that.... Think you should give it a shot.... =)

And the more im seeing as of late, id go for it third vs fourth =)

Either would probably work though

Either a clean thin file or a fairly recent BK and Discover will love you long time.  That is about the only sense people or at least I can make out of Discover.  You should get a 5-10k CL if this is only your third card based off of other DP's with recent discover approvals.

Re: What is a "thin file" for Discover?

Thanks.

Was actually denied for no reason and no explanation  months ago. The only thing I or anyone else could make sense out of it was that my address was wrong but now I am actually getting prequalified on their website with an APR which I forgot now what it was. I only had 3hrs to "apply" so guess I'll have to redo that anyway.

And yeah, the average joes are scaring me with their thick files trying and trying.

I burned them years ago but seems they're more fogiving than BOA. Chargeoff. No Chapter7.

Could of been an address thing. I think if they are courting your with pre-quals mailers you should be good also they have a pretty legit pre-qual site now at

https://www.discovercard.com/application/prequal?execution=e1s1

best of luck if you go for it!

Re: What is a "thin file" for Discover?

I never received a prequalify via mail. That is actually how my mom got in with them....and I know someone who is now getting Discover mail after getting approved for a Home Depot card.

I got a prequalify through their website for the Discover It and Chrome  with a 21.99% APR and not secured. Seems more legit than when I was trying it months ago.
