On 4/12 I was approved for a Discover It card with a 2K limit, for someone who has been rebuilding - I was jumping for joy that my hard work had paid off.
2 days later discover hits me with a IRS verification form, fine, surprised - but fine. I filled it out and sent it back to them the same day. Until then, my account is on hold and I have 0 access to my limit. Also, fine, I can wait a week or 2. I'm going on a trip and this card was really meant for that spend.
it has now been one month since I opened the account, over 3 weeks since I've signed the form. They have reported to all of my CRA's and I have the card - the hold is still in place and they have no idea when the IRS is going to respond with my information. I'm floored - now I can't use the card and the whole reason I opened it a month ago, was for a vacation I have planned (not the end of the world, but extremely disappointed)
has anyone else gone through this verification with Discover? Even when I purchased a brand new car, the bank didn't put me through this. At this point I guess I have to just sock drawer the card and await the IRS, which who knows when they'll get to it.

It's not right. I would ask to speak to a supervisor.
@SouthJamaica I have. They won't budge. I even offered to send in other documentation proving my identity but they won't accept it. The IRS is one of the most slow moving institutions, but never thought a month would go by.
overall discover is great and I'm excited to have an account with them.... when I can use it. Overall disappointment is this verification process. There has to be a better, more consumer friendly way.
I was able to get in touch with a more helpful rep who gave me an update that the IRS is actually processing the form and should have a response any day now... fingers crossed.

Excellent! At least you know what's happening now. Please update us when it's all said and done!
Update: the verification has been completed! I guess reaching a supervisor helped; my account is finally active.
excited to be able to build a history with Disco and hopefully never have to go through the verification process again.
Congrats @anik28 Enjoy your vaca. Dont go OTL!
@FireMedic1 thanks! Going to behave, promise haha
