For me I started with the Platinum / PRG combo, but then changed it to the Platinum / EDP combo with seems to be working better for my spend.
The most useful combo for most people would probably be the Platinum, EDP, and Blue Business Plus combo. Those are my main MR point earning cards. I also have the PRG, Biz Gold, and Biz Plat. If it wasn't for the AMEX Offers, I'd have been closed my PRG... same with the Biz Gold. Neither are worth the fee when I look at a pure point perspective (based on my spend at least)... but the AMEX offers is the only reason I keep both open. I can usually double dip in a few offers throughout the year which drowns out the fee.
I want to trim off some card fat though... so unless they have some good retention offers, I'll probably drop both Golds by June.
"Best" is definitely subjective and depends on a person's spend and travel habits.
EDP worked for me when Costco took Amex and I had a lot of traditional grocery spend. Now it's BBP and Schwab Platinum because I have little traditional grocery spend but higher off-category spend and my travel routes are rich in Delta and Cent lounges.

What's the appeal of keeping both the personal and business Platinums?
I've seen/heard/read about the Schwab Platinum card on here before, what exactly is it? How does it work? I don't think I ever see those on AMEX website...

I've used up my "once in a lifetime" SUB with the AMEX Platinum, so its a PC for me! XD

Personal = 5x MRs on airline purchases. Business = 35% of MRs (up to 500k/year) bonused back to you on Pay With Points airfare purchases. Buy enough airfare in a year, that'll more than pay for itself!

There are actually a handful of co-branded Platinum cards. Here is the Schwab. There's also an Ameriprise, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and a soon-to-be-(or recently)-discontinued Mercedes-Benz version. Each type of Platinum card has its own advantages; most (if not all) of the co-branded cards require you to have accounts open in order to become (or stay) eligible.
Edit: There I go being late to the party for grabbing links while typing my reply, hehe. One important thing is that having received a SUB on the regular Platinum card doesn't disqualify you from SUBs on the co-branded cards, or vice-versa, or from one co-brand to another.

Start with a normal Amex Platinum charge card (all perks and benefits).
Add the option to redeem MRs for 1.25 cpp as cash in a Schwab account.
Add a $100 annual credit if you have $250k+ at Schwab, or $200 if $1M+.
Take away the ability to PC to another charge card.
Get a SUB that is, at times, lower than what the regular Platinum may offer (but remain eligible for a SUB on the regular Platinum).

I don't really WANT both... but I'm stuck in a corner. I have 3 auth users on the regular Platinum (wife, mom, sis) for the Delta SkyClub access, 5x airfare, and other various platinum perks. I have the Biz Plat because of the 35% rebate (oh how I miss the 50% rebate). I would add them to my Biz Plat but the add'l user fee is $300 a pop. So I don't know what to do I only use the Biz Plat for the 35% rebate (which is really where MOST of my MR points go).
