Good question...up until last month, the top card on my wish list had been a NFCU card, particularly the cashRewards Visa. Guess what, that's what I got at the end of last month. Deciding on what new cards I might want to add to my portfolio is now a lot more difficult, and in truth I can only think of maybe two or three that particularly catch my interest for 2019. Something from Amex - possibly BCE, or maybe the new Cash Magnet - now, I suppose, holds pride of place on the want list, such as it now is, and then the BJ's Perks Mastercard (or maybe the Costco Anywhere Visa, bearing in mind that that's a Citi cobrand and my ability to get Citi cards is kind of in doubt because they were IIB'ed on a mortgage and on a co-branded Best Buy card in 2014). Aside from that...I really dunno. It seems more like my main objective for the upcoming year should be to grow my existing cards and consolidate them by combining cards (specifically, my two Discover IT's) or closing cards that I'm pretty sure I'm not going to use anymore.
WOW!! I'm so glad someone asked this, because honestly I've been going about applying for cards in a willy-nilly fashion with not much rhyme or reason after 10+ years of 100% cash only living. Perfect opportunity to give it some thought.... After the app-sprees of this year I'm in the garden until 2020 I hope, but after that my wish list is:
1. Home Depot (if no changes occur to my current living arrangments--in a house built in 1970, gonna need some refurbishing soon)
2. Delta Skymiles (or Skymiles Gold, if enough travel will occur to offset the annual fee on the gold one--I THINK it has an AF)
3. Care Credit (doggies are getting older and the beagle is mentally challenged and might eat something that needs surgery to remove)
4. CLI on existing cards that make getting new ones not as appealing as said CLI ![]()
Excellent question! This is something I think about regularly.
My goal cards are based on my spending habits:
1. Amex BCE or BCP
2. IKEA Projekt Card
3. Care Credit
4. Amazon Prime Store Card
5. Maybe Macy's
6. PC my Cap One Plat to Savor

"Missliz" Since your a member of penfed you might want to look into the PenFed Platinum Rewards card... If gives you the same 3% Cash back on groceries as the BCE and also gives you 5% on gas... No annual Fee
Holy Toledo, I never knew that! The only other card from Penfed I looked into was the Pathfinder, but it didn't make sense to app for that since I don't travel often. Thank you for this info!

1. Amex Everyday - I've been carrying a small balance for a while on my Chase Freedom Unlimited but 0% period is about to end. Close to paying it off, but paying interest on it would slow the process. Need the AWESOME BT offer so I can have it paid off by early next year.
2. Barclays Uber Visa - Don't have a strong dining card.
3. PayPal Cash Back - Need a 2% card for when my miles match period on Discover IT Miles runs out, and Citi DC denied me last year. That taught me not to apply for 2 cards in 2 days when you haven't opened a card in 2+ years, lol.

Not quite, it gives points (5 on gas at pump, 3 on groceries). At best cash-like redemptions (Visa gift card), this comes out to about 2.5% on groceries and 4.2% on gas. So not as good as BCE on groceries (but much better on gas). On the plus side, groceries are uncapped and you get rewards at groceries outside the US (and more things code as supermarkets than with Amex)
