Annoying because:

Low limit

HP for any CLI, and then the CLI wasn't worth the pull

Reports at the end of the month, not statement date

Antiquated website

Unreliable acceptance

Call in for rewards redemption

I put up with it because ... 3% CB

How much spending do you put on the card each year? Are we talking MS or genuine goods and services? From a low CL, I'm guessing you don't MS much with it.

3% is only 1% more than the 2% you can get from low-headache cards. If we're talking genuine goods and services (not MS), even if you put $50k on the card each year (which would be a lot for most people for non-bonus-category merchants that accept JCB), back out the JCB 1% and 2% spending, the 2% opportunity cost, and I guess a Marukai membership fee, what remains? $400? That's not much compared to occasionally getting a new card for a signup bonus, especially a nice fat cobrand bonus.

Maybe my hypothetical example doesn't apply to you, I'm just trying to see the appeal. I'd much rather strategically cut a card loose occasionally than constantly use a headache card.

You are absolutely correct on this ... I don't MS, so very little gain over a 2% card.  Actually right now it is basically sockdrawed.  I have a lot going on and don't want to take the time to manage paying off multiple cards each month.  Plus I'm buying a home, so keeping as few cards reporting as possible.

But when my life is less hectic, it gets a fair amount of use, 10K-$15K per year.  Is putting up with their website and calling in for rewards worth $100's or so ... ehh, maybe not, especially when you factor in the random declines when using the card.  Logical or not, I will keep this card, as I like the idea of having a wide diversity of lenders, and the uniqueness of the card, etc.

Re: What is your most annoying card...

Right now my most annoying card is the Citi DC because I've been wanting to upgrade it to a World Elite MC ( I just got out of my 0% promo APR) and one month's billing cycle has passed after the promo offer and still no offers to upgrade it. I plan to make some purchases on it and can use the WEMC extended warranties and travel insurance benefits. It has over an 8k limit too!! Grrr.

They randomly increase my credit lines for no apparent reason.

Ah, probably Barclays Arrival.  Aside from having been downgraded from an Arrival+ to anchor my Barclays relationship, it serves absolutely no purpose.

Not Arrival...i have the Apple and Rewards cards and they randomly increase and reduce my limits on both. I called when it happened before and the rep told me they monitor your credit profile, not just their cards, and make adjustments that way. Sooo crazy considering i have 100% payment history and less than 20% usage on both cards with them. Im almost ready to close them.

I thought my carecredit was annoying because I was only keeping it for the age.  I ran the numbers and found that I'll only lose 50 days average if it closes.  Does it matter if I close or let synchrony close it?

AAoA factors in both open and closed accounts so you wouldn't lose any age on your credit profile anyway

Re: What is your most annoying card...

Amex Gold Skymiles...  I don't travel more than once or twice a year anymore.  It's always on Delta, but the card is not working for me like it used to, it has an AF, and the CL is poopoo @ $2K..  This is also my third oldest card so I'm afraid to cancel it because in 10 years I don't want to take an AAoA hit.  I'm an AU on the BCP in my sig... Should I apply for my own?

Cap 1. QS1 cards...  These are my two oldest cards, one was originally a rebuilding HSBC card that started with a $500 CL, it's still only $1500 now because I never used it much and never got or asked for a CLI until last month.  The other started with a $1300 limit and in Feb. I finally asked for a CLI on it. I only got $500 so it now has a $1800 limit and then I converted it to a QS1.  Each of them have a $59 AF.

I'd love to cancel all three but my AAoA would eventually TANK because my other cards are pretty recent.   Or am I thinking too much in to it?

AAOA recovers. Not to say I think you should tank it with a ton of apps, but it's a relatively low factor in one's score (15%). I also don't think it's important to worry about something potentially minor that will occur 10 years from now. Third oldest card is not very significant, IMO, so I'd just cancel it. You can make an argument for keeping the oldest cards, but third oldest is probably not a big deal.

As for my annoying card, it was probably my QS, but I cancelled it. High APR that they will not lower. Apparently, if you get the right person in EO and you qualify, you CAN get permanent reductions, but it's just not worth hassling over to me. In my mind, if I have to petition to the EO and beg for an APR reduction, the company doesn't want my business that badly, when others readily drop the APR with no headache. Especially with the fact that contacting EO requires back and forth emails/calls/getting a PIN/etc, just isn't worth it to me.
