What length of time defines a spree?

I keep reading up on app sprees and seeing people applying for multiple cards in a short of period of time.  Sometimes, it's one day; sometimes, it's a week.  I tried searching the forums and Google at large; I haven't really come across a definition of an app spree.  I understand it's always going to vary person to person, but is there some agree upon standard that makes a series of applications a spree? Is it simply about applying to a bunch of cards while the new inquiries or credit accounts haven't hit the bureaus? What about applying for 1 card per month for the next 5 months.  Would you consider that a 5-month app spree?

Also, is it usually sought out that several cards within the spree are part of the same bank or issuer to minimize hard pulls?

Sorry for the ignorance,

Thanks for all the info guys.

Re: What length of time defines a spree?

I would certainly define 5 cards in 5 months as a spree. But the main purpose of a spree is to get all if your HP/TL aging at once (think of ripping off the band aid). You take the temporary score hit, but since all of your TL are aging together, the recovery time is faster vs having 2 in April, 1 in May, 2 in June, etc...

Stretching a spree over 5 months seems like an inefficient way to spree.

Re: What length of time defines a spree?

Most HP appear in your CR the moment you hit apply so there's no advantage there; TL can take awhile to show up depending on the lender so I suppose that may be an advantage...

I would plan what cards you want and figure out who they pull so you plan what order you apply for them in and then I would do it all at once vs. 1 a month over a period of time.

Re: What length of time defines a spree?

An app spree to me means apping for as many products as possible but doing so before the new TLs hit your CR.

The HPs are hard to remove the second u click submit.  But it's possible to limit the # of new accounts to hit your report if you "spree" your way in a short period of time..  For me this means in one weekend or one sitting.

Discover IT $19,000 == 12/2013
AMEX 12/2013 ---BCP $12,000 === BC $23,000 ----- 04/2014
CHASE SLATE $5,700 === 12/2013
BoA 123 $6000 === 12/2013
Barclay Rewards $1500 == 12/2013

Re: What length of time defines a spree?

I try to be extremely Strategic on my sprees and so far so good. I like to app spree within a string of a single week, usually the first of a month, then allow that month to pass and then pick it back up again the following month somewhere in the middle of it, then i stop myself cold right there & then, and leave things alone while those new TL's report and i begin to run charges thru them and PIF most but roll forward others. So i suppose my app sprees constitute a period of 2 months then done for 6. Smiley Happy
