What less-than-most-practical card are you attached to?

So at least for now, I have gotten the cards I really wanted, most recently CSP. I can't say every decision was the most practical, or my most recent would have been Sallie Mae.

The CSP metal card appeal fell short quickly, but I cannot regret that sign up bonus. I find now that I'm getting a little tired of maximizing, paying off 4 cards every 2 weeks, going through 5 different apps to review statements, and I kind of just want to stick to one card, for now at least.

While it does not have the best rewards structure, and a high, unjustified AF, I just feel good about having my Amex PRG in my wallet. The look of it, the excellent customer service, even the pay in full, just make it my favorite. I may bump down to Green because $175 is a bit ridiculous, but I think it boils down to me just liking an old school amex charge card in my wallet.

Does anyone else feel like this about a particular card? Does the non-logical value overwrite the practical decisions of what card to use?

I'm feeling that way, and I'm pretty okay with it actually Smiley Happy

Oddly enough, My highest personal limit card (AMEX BSP) probably, other than it's APR (14.24%) is my least practical at the moment..

I also have a PRG and am within my first year with it. I'm deliberating between downgrading to a Senior Green or closing it when the next AF is due.

I'm with you that it gets old "chasing the biggest reward" over and over. I tend to use my Quicksilver for most general spend and I also use the Discover IT frequently, despite the fact that sometimes the IT doesn't give me the best return. I think Discover's customer service is fantastic and really everything about them I like, so I want to support them. They were my first unsecured card and have always given me auto CLI. So I don't rely on just using their card for 5% categories in return.

Perhaps surprisingly, my Amex BCE.

I'd never give up my Amex BCE either, or at the very least I'd never leave Amex, even though I have reaped a lot less out of the BCE than I thought I would.

The main reason I am keeping it is for the AMEX offers and for backdating.

But yeah, since I shop mostly at Costco, where I use my 2% AMEX, BCE gets very little usage.

Discover It despite their oddities and weirdness and other things that I dislike about them. I've been able to get at least 35 dollars cashback from using the card in less than a year and customer service has always been decent. The card is in the SD but at the same time, I'm considering taking it out of the SD to take advantage of the 5% cashback on gas. It's a love hate relationship I have with them right now really and it's quite a polarizing card for me.

My version of the Citi Forward isn't even that great but I can't tell you enough how essential that card has been in helping me build my credit and I occasionally still put a charge on it too.

Re: What less-than-most-practical card are you attached to?

Honestly for me, probably the Freedom. I love the way it looks and I always wanted one, but after having it for over half a year, I'm finding I'm not overly thrilled with the 5% category choices and now I have Sallie Mae, which covers a lot of my regular purchases with 5%. My other spend is either on clothes, take-out, or eBay so I'm probably better off with a general spend card (unless someday I can get a Cash+ Cat Tongue).

Quicksilver $10,000 | Better Balance Rewards $2000 | Sallie Mae $3500 | Freedom $3500

Re: What less-than-most-practical card are you attached to?

Yeah, the Freedom is one of those cards that a lot of people seem to love, but I never really got into it. I had one and got rid of it. If you have a Discover IT, in my opinion the categories tend to be better and more broad, but others say the opposite. I will say I don't think anyone needs to have both Freedom and Discover IT though. Too similar.
