Gheesh my local credit union in Houston is the worst. I have a 665 credit score and was denied for a Credit Card saying too many inquires (3 in past 12 months). Most credit unions give you anything they offer when your credit is over 620. Not this one. I thought the credit union was supposed to be there for the MEMBERS? The card amount I requested was $7000. If they wouldnt approve that amount you would think they would say "Lets start out at $500 for a while and go from there" Nope flat out denial.
Why do stingy credit unions even exist?
That CU specifically could have minimum required scores to get a card....
I just opened a 10K Visa with my local CU ... and i have a 5k at another (see scores below)
I currently work for a bank (i have no cards through them) because they require a 720 to even become a member.
Perhaps find a different CU.
There are long lists of CUs open to anyone, plus a bunch in your local area.

Sounds like a good opportunity to find a new credit union.
Do you have any lingering baddies on your report which may have spooked them? I know a guy who applied for his CU's card with 700+ score and was denied because he had filed BK a couple years prior.

Did have a short sale two and half years ago and a few med collections still open.

The only problem is there are so many and each join is a credit hard pull.
I need a guaranteed, large credit line CC upon joining a credit union. The only one I know if is NavyFCU which I dont qualify for.

I dont qualify for NFCU either, even though my parents are both retired military, w/e though.... anyways....
My CU pulled once for the card and used that for my membership..... and it was done as easy as that..... Either way here you are looking at a hp and there is absolutely no way to guarantee you will get approved.....

Maybe you can look into joining DCU...they seem to give out nice credit lines with scores in the mid 600's. Just make sure you get membership first before you apply for any of their credit products. No matter what it will be 2 seperate HPs (one for membership and other for credit card).

Collections are considered a major derog and that may be why you were not approved (even though they cited the inquiries). You may want to clear these up before moving forward (there are many helpful threads in rebuilding section regarding how to use HIPPA and other methods to get med collections removed).
DCU is supposed to be really generous with their CL, but it's 2 HP (one to join; one for the card).
My credit union is great. $40k in total CL - $20k credit card and $20k personal loan (should I ever need one - it is already approved). Then again my CU is rated one of the best by members on here who don't qualify for US gov't CU's. Definitely keep looking around and try to do research before joining. See what is available, do the research, then join and apply for credit.
I love Georgia Own CU. They have been great to me. I would suggest looking for a new CU.
