If you don't like AMEX don't get one, don't knock the people that enjoy their cards.
+1. Yawn.

The list would be a lot longer on threads about people bad mouthing First Premier, Capital One, and Orchard Bank.
@jamesdwi wrote:Yes backdating still works if you have closed all your AMEX cards, usually if its still on credit report its easy to get it backdated, if its older than that it can be more work and hassle but always worth it... for the backdating goodness. If its prehistoric like a card from the 1970's or 80's its YMMV. ;-) yeah i had a AMEX card while i was in elementary school, I wish.. ;-)
Mine says, 1974, what does that say about me

Yes, duplicate topics within days is extremely common, here and elsewhere. Consider counting up threads asking for contact info for the Cap One EO, Amex 3x CLI,
how to get CSP.
So not sure why this particular duplication is so special....
The Amex "thing" has never been described as well as gagnamfico famously decribed it on this site about sic months ago:

Because the chicks dig it when I throw down the card to the waiter and...it comes in handy if I'm short on cash until payday and need a short spot. AMEX gets the booty, and that's important when you're a Pirate.
For me, finally getting an Amex was like a big conquest!! Now that I have it... I am like whatever. I have never had so much anxiety over a creditor. People talking about don't spend it there, never revolve a balance, don't click on the spender button, don't log on too often, etc. I don't know if any of it is true, but I definitely feel panicky on their site.
I am not very impressed with Amex. When I first requested the 3x cli at 62 days, the guy actually congratulated me, said my new limit was $6000, and told me to keep using it how I have been. When the CLI never updated I called back and they didn't see the request. They were supposed to look into it, but no one ever got back to me. I requested again 90 days later and was declined because income relative to other debt. My utility was like 7% and I think I had maybe $2500 in revolving debt. So who knows. Others have had great luck, but for me I just feel stuck..like it will never grow.
OK, you are a myfico victim! Don't worry about FR etc, they are very rare, and no-one here knows the triggers etc. Most Amex users in the real world use their cards happily, don't even know the term Financial Review, and the vast majority live their lives without experiencing anything. So ignore all advice of that sort (except mine of course!)
Sorry about your bad Amex CLI experience, sounds messed up!

Never had any of the mentioned problems but I love three things
1. Ability to charge really large amounts (ie: over 50k phone purchase 1 year after getting the card)
2. Ability to report AU spending seperately and set monthly spend limits on individual AUs.
3. Airport lounges.
You bought a $50k phone? If you need another, I'll sell you one of mine for only $30k, and I'll accept any credit card you like...
Thank you Asphaltcowboy!! After reading your comment on backdating, I messaged Amex about my account from 1987....my new card was sent this morning! Member since '87!
