Yes, but there is also blurring sometimes!

I agree that for a lot of us it can be blurred.  ....I do tend to use different cards for different things to maximize my rewards.

I noticed the same thing but I think the reason is most My Fico’ers to some degree diversify our cards for rewards much more than the general population. And many of us have been evolving our credit card strategy over time and seem to find it is rarely in a state of homeostasis. So the answers are basically ... “IT depends, ...” and followed by the explanation involving multiple cards.

Lol. Another cardholder factoring CL into use of a card.

I had a separate post about this, and basically the replies were that no one really does that. I say it CAN factor in use for some people. Most disagreed.

It's just an emotional thing with some I guess. They feel the lender has "rewarded" them with a higher limit, so they want to use the card more often. I do think it can factor in, subconciously or not.

Have you considered the Premium Rewards to be able to get that in cash though? Just wondering. I compared those two and pros and cons both ways. From my understanding, TR has no AF but  much lower cash redemption than 2.625 potential of PR. PR has AF (but offsets to completely cover if you use it) and flexibility in redemption. Do you feel BofA travel redemption through their portal are good deals?

BOA is extremely flexible with what they consider "travel", including parking, tolls, amusement parks, basically anything vaguely "travel" related counts on the TR card. Obviously not as flexible as cash, but there's no AF, and I would say a large chunk of the population is going to have at least one BOA "travel" expense over the course of a year (which is the period they allow you to redeem against).

I think it can also. But for most people, it doesn’t matter as long as it is sufficient for their needs. I have had cases where a very low CL encouraged me to not use a card at all. (Thanks Capital One and your conservative lending.).  I’ve also used cards more after CLIs I appreciated just to show I value the card and credit line.

When we’re talking this particular subject (daily driver), I can definitely see how it might influence someone who has a high monthly spend and is also concerned about UTIL rate.  For someone with extremely high business or personal monthly spend, even what sounds like an generous credit line of $25K to $50K could be considered too limiting. It’s all in the perspective, I guess.

Since we have Costco Executive and Amazon Prime and are Plat Honors with BoA I have decided to leverage them:

BoA Cash Rewards 1

  • Costco (effectively 5.5%)
  • Groceries (3.5%)
  • Dining (5.25%)

BoA Cash Rewards 2

  • Online shopping (Amazon, eBay, Uber, flights, travel agencies, etc, 5.25%)
  • Rotate categories only as needed (5.25%)

BoA Premium Rewards

  • When travel internationally (dining, tours and excursions, usually 3.5%)
  • Off categories (2.625%)

I had to study that to absorb it. Lol. Smiley Tongue Especially where you factored in the 2% Costco Executive bonus to the card. Smart strategy, well thought out and pretty simple overall!  Good job!   So do you use any other cards or just those three?

Thanks!  I wanted to have the staples in place before expanding. Have a little SUB chasing plan that should start soon.   Smiley Tongue

And yes we have Discover It for 5%, Citi Costco for gas, Chase Ink for biz, and we currently also use BCP, Savor and Venture but will downgrade them next year and keep as back ups in case BoA nerfs itself.

Re: What’s your current daily driver?

Amex Gold for restaurants and grocery, Discover for 5% categories, Coastal Visa for gas, PayPal MC for everything else, others only used for specific reasons.

If I had to name one as a "daily driver," it would be PayPal MC, since it's a jack of all trades. But reality is, I use them as I just described, and may likely use 2-4 cards in a given day.

One exception, my office cafeteria codes as "business services," and none of my cards give any particular rewards for that category, so I use PayPal MC for lunch at the office.

FICO Resilience Index: 64. Cards: 5/24, 2/12, 2/6. Accounts including loans: 8/24, 4/12, 3/6. Card CLs total $213,900, or $240,400 including the AU card. Cards (oldest to newest)

Any feature of a CC can factor into use, from CL to how "pretty" the card is.   Perhaps what some members were getting at was that a CL doesn't necessarily have to be a reason to curtail use of a CC.  You could charge over the CL (for some cards) or make multiple payments a month, for example.  IMHO, one great feature of CC use is making one monthly payment, so I don't consider multiple payments a great option.

Agreed. Many reasons to pull one card over another. If it weren't so, there would be no affinity cards. Even one poster here said Amex gets most of his/her business because he/she likes the company, even though it earns less rewards.
