Consistently for the past year and a half, it's been my Altitude Reserve. I use it with Apple Pay or Samsung Pay anywhere I don't have to dip a card or hand it to someone else to run it. Actually, I wouldn't be able to do that anyway because the card never leaves the house, lol.
But, I also like to maximize my rewards, so I use the card that provides the best return for the purchase. So if I can do better than 4.5x, it goes on that particular card.
For those looking for minimal number of cards, the AR can be a large part of the solution. That plus a 2+% card for when it can't be used is going to pretty good for those that don't need transferable points. 4.5% is close enough to 5% to reduce the need for other cards, such as a 5% gas. That said, I am going to keep my 5% Amazon for use there and at Whole Foods as these are large enough expenses for me for the additional 0.5% to be worth the bother! And for this quarter, the last of Chase Pay, I am using the Freedom first, until the $1500 spend is done.

I have pretty much the same setup right now. Currently maxing out Freedom/Chase Pay. Use Amazon cards for 5% and either Amex BBP or Citi DC for 2% whenever I can't do better.
I'd certainly add a dining card to the minimalist equation, unless you're ok with getting up from your table and following your server to the terminal to use AR with mobile pay ![]()
Definitely Amex Gold

Right now I'm putting everything (except for things covered by Disco's 5% off) on my Navy Federal AMEX, as I'm trying to make minimum spend for the sign-up bonus.
After that, I'll be doing Navy's cashRewards card with its 1.5%. I am preapproved for Citi's Double Cash, but am trying to garden for a few months. (I also am not trusting that preapproval just yet.)
Amex Gold + BBP
I put some utilities on Citi DC since they don't take Amex. Now that the DC can be converted to TY points, it's essentially 2.5% back now (when transferred to the Premier) which is nice.
Thinking about getting the Amazon card for 5% back since I do so much spend there, and maybe the Uber card as a failsafe for the Amex.

Amex Gold.
Got it when it was the PRG almost two years ago. But after having it for two years, I think I'm either gonna dump it or see what the new Green revamp has to offer and POSSIBLY downgrade if I can stay ahead with the annual fee... Also PC'd back up to the BCP since that was my DD before I got the Gold.
Citi TY Premier. I'm just about 11k miles away from another Star Alliance J class award to SE Asia using Lifemiles. Between the category spend multipliers and the transfer bonuses Avianca offers from time to time it's easy to fly to Asia in premium cabins.
Doing EVA in February to BKK but I want to try the new ANA J class in 2021.
My current drivers are:
Savor 4% CB for dining and entertainment
Sam's 5% CB gas
Amex 6% CB groceries
Paypal MC 2% CB on everything else

mine is pretty similar except I dont have a dedicated Grocery and Gas card since those arent major expenses for me:
AR: 4.5% back wherever Apple Pay is accepted. Also this card is kept in SD unless im traveling somewhere then ill use it for a hotel or baggage fees etc.
If apple pay isnt accepted then I use these:
Savor 4% back on dining and entertainment
Citi DC 2% back on everything else.
Wells Fargo CW 1.5% back on everything (only keeping this in case I need to make a large purchase that ill rather finance with the 0% intro)

I haven’t seen this question posted in a while so I thought I would get a current picture.
When not chasing a signup bonus what is your daily driver for non-category spend?
Question seemed easy enough to understand. Non-category to me means "what's your go-to card when all your good reward cards aren't any good."
The term "daily driver" is a misnomer as most days it's the card I don't use.
