I've decided to fully dedicate my spending to earn MR points. I want to start traveling more/better. I have the platinum and also the business plus earning MR points. I have a BCE with a $20K limit on it, but as far as personal credit there isn't a lot available for MR points (not speaking of charge cards).
What to do? I spoke with AMEX and they said if I applied for a new MR earning card they can roll the limit over to make one line. They also told me they can't PC the BCE over the the everyday. Should I just keep the BCE and the few purchases I would put on it go as cashback?
I have my plat as my daily driver. I live well within my means so I can't see using the MR earning personal card much? I'm trying to make things as simplistic as possible and plan on putting 99.99% of my personal spending through my platinum. I don't spend enough to justify splitting up rewards amongst a few cards and if I need to float it for a while I'd ideally like the card to earn me MR points.
TIA
If they can roll it into one MR card, just do that! It really depends on what you want. If you have "no use" for straight forward cash back, and you really want only the MR points, then it makes the most sense to just get that 20k line on a card you'll actually use.
Or can PC to magnet card and just have a simple 1.5% card if you prefer that structure over the BCE? Assuming you dont care about forgoing the sign-up bonus on the magnet, etc.
You can get another amex card w/o a HP if you are not worried about your AAoA. A nice MR combo is EDP 4.50x grocery, 3x gas and 1.50x on all other purchases w/ 30 swips a month. Add DW as an AU and 30 swipes should be easy. In addition, the opportunity to get more Amex MR offers w/ the card with your new Plat card. 15k SUB too.
This way you get all MR points w/ purchases at a better MR rate and let Plat be your perk card and airline card for 5x.
Then move your BCE limit into the card.
Just my 2 cents. I agree with apping for EDP or ED and banking those MR's. Just move your line over to the new card and either close BCE or keep 1k on it and use it once in a while. Also, have you looked at PRG over Plat for MR earning? Plat is awesome for flight and hotel but not great for a daily driver IMO.
good luck!

I think that's what I'm going to do once I meet my Plat spend. Apply for one of those and merge the lines. I have thought about the PRG, but I also am trying to get away from maximizing every bit of rewards and making things simple. I don't spend a lot at the grocery and I drive very little for personal use (just crossed 3k miles in 11 months. All my driving is for biz).
Thanks for the post!

You can use EDP for 3x business gas Amex doesn’t care. Just reimburse yourself your business miles or gas if it’s a business car.
That's where I was at a couple months ago, the BCE just got lost in the shuffle of other cards with similar structure. So i apped for the ED card when it had the 25K SUB. Then I plan to move my BCE CL over to the ED card and close. I did think about leaving it with $1K and SD it, since there's no AF. But I don't need more of those to keep track of. Ff it weren't for the minimum $25 redemption, it consider keeping it. But Discover allows any amount to redeem, as does Cap One etc.
I may PC it to the Cash magnet just to have a "differnt' lookign card from Amex, and to keep an aged tradeline open.
Decisions, decisions.

I think that's what I'm going to do once I meet the spend on the platinum. Then, hopefully, I'll rack up the MR points pretty quickly.
