What to do with my BCP?

So what should I do with my Amex BCP. My year is coming up and at first I loved this card. It was awesome Cashback at the supermarket for my family if 4 and we host a lot as well. Then the gold Amex blew it out of the water and we decided to divert more to MR points. Our top 2 cats are eating out and supermarket spend, either for food or gift cards.

So, I’m pretty sure I should cancel it to avoid the AF. I guess my question is I already canceled the old SPG card this year so I could get the BBP card, if I cancel another card this year and try to open another card, (probably Hilton business) would they Deny me from getting the SUB. I currently have 5 revolvers and 4 charge cards with Amex.

Any data points out there, I can’t seem to find anything concrete. If anything I could keep it, I’m pretty sure I can stil easily make up the AF just by renewing our Disney annual passes with gift cards from the supermarket.

I would be careful with canceling before the AF. If you have gotten subs in the past and dumped cards, Amex could deny you them in the future. There are threads out the covering that.

You could downgrade after a month or two and get a prorated refund. Maybe even move some of that limit to another cash back card. It's always your choice to cancel if the fee is too much or you don't want to deal with the extra card.

What about a PC from the BCP to the BCE to avoid the AF and not have to close the account entirely?

Re: What to do with my BCP?

The only reason I don’t want to do a product change because I want to be all in on MR points. I travel and stay with Hilton frequently as well so that’s why I considered the Hilton business. I’m just more into getting points in general than Cashback. I wasn’t thinking about that at the time and I was just happy to even get approved back then since I was in full rebuild mode.

Re: What to do with my BCP?

Since you're at the 5 [AmEx] revolver count, maybe two options?  (1) downgrade to BCE if you're not wanting to continue with the AF and eventually reallocate the CL/cancel the card at a much later timeframe, or (2) if you can offset the AF, continue business as usual until you can reallocate/cancel the card.

Since the SUB landscape has changed in recent times, there's no telling if they would restrict any potential SUB opportunity (plenty of DPs on this) should you decide to cancel BCP prematurely to avoid the AF given you've already cancelled SPG earlier this year.
