Target REDcard, in 2008 right after I turned 18
My limit was initially $500, but was bumped shortly (3-4 months) to $1000, where it's been since. I used to complain about that limit, until I got on here and realized Target has left people with much less to work with (seriously, $200 is a joke).
I didn't know it at the time, but my mom had me as an AU on one of her Amex charge cards, which (unknowingly) helped me build some history before actually getting cards. That's the only reason why I can think a few months after getting the Target card Citi approved me with the (then MTVu card) for a $4k limit at 18.
My first card was a Belk card at 18. Which then quickly led to Dillards, Express & JCPenney. Which then led to my parents bailing me out because I was in over my head. After that, I maxed them out again and they were all closed and charged off.
Then a few years later, I got a capital one card and messed it up too! That all ended in 97 and I have not had any type of credit from then until 2012. So when I started with my boa 99/500 last August, my credit was basically brand new. (With the exception of a car and home paid perfectly and in full years ago). Now you can see my cards in my sig and I have grown up a whole lot since then. Like others have said, I wish there would have been a place like this site back then so I could have had more knowledge about credit. But I am glad to be where I am and make sure to tell my kids about all the trouble it caused me so they will hopefully not go down the same road I did. ![]()
Well - after holding my first bank account from the age of 5 back home in Australia, was offered a Commonwealth Bank Awards mastercard - which had a nice feature that allowed fees to be waived as long as you were at university (every card in Australia has annual fees - this worked for me until they changed it about 2 years ago). Started off at $1000 - still have it (having toned down the credit limit from 5k to 4k as I don't really use it).
And now I have a toy from Chase. Just wish I had got an AMEX before I left.
It was the Chase Freedom for me, back in February of 2007 (a few months after I turned 18). $500 CL, don't remember what the APR was. I messed that one up in no time. ![]()
Back in the time of the Cosmos developing ! !
Got my first card in the early 70s right out of college. It was a Carte Blanche card. Had a pretty good job then, but no credit history, I have no idea how I qualified other than income. Followed by Sears and Montgomery Ward store cards. Got my first AMEX (a Green) in the mid-70s.
Mine was the Associates National Bank Phillips 66 Student card. Eventually Associates sold to Citi and I got behind and they closed it. Paid it off a couple of weeks later but definitely learned the hard way.
My first card was a Mervyns card.. Only applied cash the cashier was hott..lol
BOA secured credit card $1000. 2.5 years ago.
