I live in Chicago as well. Chase and B of A dominate here with the big banks so I'd say that's why we see so many of those credit/debit cards.

BOA got big in Chi town because they bought LaSalle Bank. LaSalle Bank was the second larget bank there.

Yep, I used to work for ABN AMRO...got out before the BofA invasion.

Yea I forgot BOFA bought Lasalle. I see more people with Citi credit cards but not there debit but it don't seem to be allot of Citi Bank branches
Here in Minnesota, i see mostly US Bank, Wells Fargo, and TCF (Twin Cities Federal). Chase, Citi and BOA have zero presence here.

I'm suprise those three banks have no presence in Minnesota. They all seem to like cold(brrrrr) hard cash. I think they can get a lot of that in Minnesota.
I see mostly Chase cards (Freedom or debit) used by other people. I've seen a few Amex Gold and Blue Cash cards as well. I rarely see Discover pulled out (and yes, I actually look! It's because of this board!).
Interesting thread since I always try to see what cards people are using for purchases. Ironically, I also see a lot of folks using debit cards to make purchases except for the Costco store I usually shop at which their Amex card seems to win hands down. I live in No. California (East Bay Area) and I'm sure a lot of people are trying to dig themselves out of debt since the downturn in the economy. But the even more interesting thing is that the stores are still busy with shoppers and people are still spending. They just aren't charging as much I guess.
Yes, now that I think about it, I see a lot of cash payers now more than ever - debit and cash.

One card I won't use out of town is my Cap One card. I always seem to get a call from their fraud department. It doesn't matter if I place a travel alert or not. Any transaction over $200 got flagged. I leave it at home when traveling.
