Right now, I have a Discover IT Chrome with $5,500 credit limit. I rarely use it. I would like to increase this credit limit to $8,600. What kind of amount should I purchase in a month? After 1 month or 2 months can I ask for a Credit Limit Increase? Is there a specific date I should submit this CLI (for example, a specific number of days after the statement balance)?
consider product changing when the product change functionality comes back to the 5% card so you can have a much more useful card
the card will need spend to CLI, and CLIs are typically between $500 - $3000
just do it now and see if they'll increase you, if they deny, they will send you a letter saying why they didn't do the increase
put as much spend as you can on it and ask about once a month
No....it's still the same card with a different rewards program
I've had a Discover It card for 2.5 years. They started me with a $3k CL and six months later I requested an increase, which was approved for $7k. (Wow, I thought... they were so generous!)
But I've yet to be approved for (or given) another increase since, despite managing my account perfectly. I have about 5 CLI denial letters that are so inconsistent it's almost comical: one explanation was "low recent use of existing credit line", another claimed balances on credit accounts too high (despite the fact almost all my accounts have a zero balance), "bureau (TU) reports too many recent inquiries", and on and on.
And now that they're (sadly) officially owned by Capital One, I can pretty much forget about ever seeing a CLI.
You may ask any time you want. When they'll approve a CLI is anyone's guess. Miss Disco was hard to figure out even before Cap 1 bought them.
As far as we know, the underwriting at Discover is still separate from Cap 1 and unaffected by the merger, I think. That may change in the future.
You can product change from one card type to another online now. No need to speak to a rep. It does NOT affect the age of the account for scoring purposes. It is still the same account.

At first it said it wasn't available for me but I checked back the next day and it worked and I was able to product change my chrome to a cashback!
