I really want to start a relationship with amex and the Zync seems like a good place to start. I am a college student that is new to credit. I have been an au on a prg for about 18 months and just opened the other 2 accounts in my sig
Unbeknownst to me my father applied for a bunch of credit cards in my name in an effort to begin to build my credit history. His intentions were good I think but some of the cards he applied for were well out of my reach, including an Amex blue (ridiculous I know)The worst part is that they pulled all 3 bureaus. The ex score from amex was 722 which seemed very high. He also apped for a cap one card not sure what type but knowing him it was probably the venture, which was denied. Cap one also pulled all 3 and denied me for insufficient income. Eq score from them was 692. All of this stuff made me start caring about credit which has brought here
Back to my question about the Zync though- I know that I have to wait one month from the date of denial to app again but was wondering how much longer beyond that that I should wait to apply for zync to have a good chance of being approved.
Credit karma says my aaoa is 8 months and afaik I have 3 inquiries on ex, mostly from the botched app spree.
Thanks for your help.
Sorry aside the AU account, what is the oldest credit card you have in your name?
The BofA card has only been reporting for a little over a month but is my oldest personal tradeline
That's an unfortunate situation. I would probably wait 6 months to apply for the Zync, to let some time pass from all the inquiries and get some age on those new accounts. Though you could try in December so you could establish 2012 as your membership year. After a few months I'd think you stand a very good chance of approval for an Amex charge card.

I've been doing some reading on amex backdating for aus and have yet to find a definitive answer. Since I was added as an au in 2011 will any personal accounts I open with amex be backdated to 2011? If this is the case I think I will wait until january/february to app for the Zync, but if not then I think ill give it a shot in December to establish member since date
Someone else can chime in on this, but i believe, Amex only backdates for the primary cardmember, not AU
Do not apply for Zync until that new card has 6 months of reporting history. You should be able to get your primary card backdated to when you first held any amex. In your case, 2011. It will help the case if you create an online id for your AU card and register the new zync you get hopefully to the same account.

I've heard Amex has stopped backdating authorized users. I'm not sure if that means backdating authorized users to the original member's year only or if it means counting authorized users for backdating all together. If you can be sure that the year you were added as an additional cardmember counts for your membership year for your own cards, then you should wait until January. You might be able to call and ask, or someone here might know.
Amex does not backdate for AU's even if the primary gets a new account with the same AU. I had my wife as my AU on my Zync since 2010, I got PRG gold cards and added her again as an AU. Her new PRG card says member since 2012. My new BCE and PRG card says 2010.

The date on the card itself is pretty irrevelant and sometimes inaccurate for primary cardholders too; all that matters is the date in the online account since this appears to match the date on the credit report.
Amex used to backdate AU (AC in Amexese) accounts all the way to when the original account was opened; this was somewhat laughable because later on those AU's obtained cards with a member since date of prior to their birth.
There was a change (I'm not quite certain when) where Amex began backdating to the date the AU was added to the card. AFAIK this is still the current policy, so if your wife has been an AU since 2010, if she were to obtain her own Amex, she would be backdated to 2010 is my understanding of it from reading people's experiences over the last sixish months on this forum. Being added as an AU on a second card probably puts the date as the new one from their automated provisioning system (it would be consistent at least); however, if it's really a concern she might be able to get it changed. Not sure how much it matters honestly in your situation though unless she goes out and gets her own card.
