When to cancel Citi prestige

Since I got the reserve I wanted to cancel my prestige because I use my reserve so much more... but can I cancel the prestige before second AF hits? I know for the chase cards you have to wait 12 months to be able to close (CSP etc)... thanks

Re: When to cancel Citi prestige

I believe you have 30 days to cancel and get the AF refunded to you after it posts.

Re: When to cancel Citi prestige

I was also thinking of cancelling but because of the benefits being nerfed.  Then I thought about the 4th night free and all that I had to do is use it once and the card more than paid for itself.

So it's nice to have a card with an option of getting 4th nights free in your wallet and for that reason chose not to close it.

But you will likely use the Prestige more than once, the second time to pay for an airfare to get the $250 travel credit, correct Smiley Wink

$300 travel credit on CSR, $250 travel credit on Prestige, and $900 of AF becomes $350 before other benefits are counted.

You can cancel any card at any time.   What varies is whether you get any portion of the AF back, and whether you can transfer the credit line to another card with that issuer.   If you don't care baout either, you can close now

Correct the $250 is automatic, one time for the 4th night makes the card worth it.

Re: When to cancel Citi prestige

I used the 4th night free once, but my stays are rarely that long. I get more value from Admirals and easy 1.6 AA redemptions. I like the travel insurance, though. My renewal isn't for several months.

There is a fairly common "10k bonus TYs for $3k spend over 6 months" retention offer.

Re: When to cancel Citi prestige

I just don't like how it can take so long to credit me... the CSR really is automatic but the prestige takes 1-3 statements to credit you Smiley Sad

Are you talking about the 4th night free or airfare credit?

The 4th night free is real cashback while the airfare credit is a refund of money you already paid so I can deal with waiting 1-3 statements for that credit.  If I remember correctly their airfare credit posted rather quickly though.

Not if your stay is at a redroof inn or motel 6 Smiley Very Happy No seriously, I would never cancel my prestige card. The benefits outweigh the AF, IMO.
