In the story a spokesman for amex also said "Simply using your card at walmart will not be an issue..." they said if your patterns match up to those who don't do well with repayments, (this person shopped at wal-mart, marshalls, and had a countrywide mortgage (which i assume is a subprime lender of some sort)) then they are a risk.
I also heard the same thing. Also never hold the card wrong side up when handing it to a cashier, if you read in the card agreement your card can be rejected if you do. Another thing is you must wear a suit (I’ve gotten away with just wearing a sports jacket) when shopping at high end retail stores. You get an extra cash back bonus if you do. If you don't wear a suit they are allowed to ask for ID for Amex cards under the merchant agreement.
