Which Balance (Statement or "Current") is Reported to CRA's?

I found this firm advice in an older post:  "pay one day before your due date and wait till after the reporting closing date to use your card again."    Following this strategy, at the reporting date you'd still have a balance with the credit card, it just wouldn't be part of the current statement balance.  Just wondering which gets reported?

It'll be the statement balance that gets reported. However some cards (mostly Synchrony for us) can take a few days to show so you might have to pay a bit earlier to reduce the statement balance
