I've had it with big banks....BOA to be specific.
If I can get my DIL & Son to join NFCU as she is qualifies as a civilian gov worker on a DOD base and come on as family member or should I just join PTA and become a member of Alliant? The CU we have at my job McGraw Hill Cu doesn't seem all that great.
Which would you go for...NFCU or Alliant??
So far so good with PenFed. All I really want is the **bleep** gas CC and their taking their sweet time with that. There are also some other weird "noob" things they do with restrictions or limitations on when things post to your accounts or as in my case they will only allow me to ACH transfer $50.00 per day.
I don't qualify for NAVY but would have gone there if I did.
I am a member of both NFCU and Alliant and both are great. Navy typically gives higher credit limits on cards but Alliant is pretty generous too. Alliant allows deposits to be made from home and they pay 1.98% on savings with as little as $100, 1.736% on checking. My only complaint with NFCU is that it is a little cumbersome to get money into my checking account. This might not be a problem for you if you live in a city that has a branch or a credit union that will allow you to deposit into your NFCU account. Neither of these apply to me, so I have to push funds from one of my other checking accounts and this can take up to 6 days to post with Navy. You can pull money to pay your loan payments and these post the same day, so that isn't a problem.
You really can't go wrong with either of these credit unions.
I'm a member of NFCU, PenFed, Alliant (and others). I have nothing but good things to say about all of them. Alliant is proably the best all around "banking" CU as far as interest rates, ease of account access, online banking, and they are not bad on their credit products either. NFCU is terrific on their credit products but they tend to delay their incoming ACH payments by a day (not a big deal but no one else does that, why do they?). PenFed gave me their rewards card and a nice low rate car loan immediately after joining. Some people don't like that there is 10 day hold on your available credit after paying on your card but since I never get to 20% of my limit before PIF, it doesn't bother me. No experience with their banking -- only minimum amount in a savings account for membership.
From my experience, you can't go wrong with any of them. But, my "main" CU is still my local one that I have been a member of for 7 years. They have my mortgage, a CC, my direct deposit. and currently serve as "money central", routing funds to all of my other accounts.
