If you need a Macbook now, the current model with 750m has been around for 1 1/2 years already so there are definitely deals to be had. If you go refurbished/used you can easily shave off ~$1000 from a top of the line configuration. Just FYI if you were worried about alarming your potential lender.
If you don't need one now, a new model is coming for sure by this fall and that would be worth splurging 3.5k on.
(I was able to get the top 15" rMBP with 750m, 16gb and 512gb SSD for $1600 a few months ago. It shouldn't be much more for the 1TB SSD.)

It's going to be around 3.5k-5k to update for new a new macbook. I've never carried a balance before and would probably freak my credit card carriers out. I was considering applying for the NFCU for membership a credit card but Im thinking a LOC would be a more appropriate way to carry a balance like this? Im thinking payments like 500 a month would be ideal. I have savings, but I don't want to dip into it because its for my future downpayment. Or should I apply for the apple Barclay card? Or would I want to just apply for a personal loan? Even though this is kinda business, I don't have that part figured out yet to apply for a small business loan...or should I just use a card I already have and hope they don't freak out.
what do you guys think?
Have you thought about a hidden TL such as paypal credit or paypal credit through Newegg? That way it is a hidden TL and you can have it maxed and no one will see it
You will get an inquiry though.. What I did.
I bought my new computer using PayPal credit. And the good thing - i received a 0% interest promotion. The total cost of the purchase was spread across 12 months.

@Anonymous,
Sorry your computer died. This is the case where a business credit card of which most are hidden tradelines (Amex, Chase, U.S Bank etc.) becomes very important. That amount could be put on it and it won't affect your credit report whatsoever and you'd have the piece of mind paying it off slowly albeit interest.
Since you don't have that option, The Barclays Apply will probably give you some promotional APR for your purchase if you apply. The only worry is if they will be willing ot give you a higher limit to cover the price of the computer.
She does have options, if she does any side business. As sole proprietor, applied and approved for Amex SimplyCash business. 0% 9 months. Cash back posts as statement credit. 5% cell phone and office supply store. They have their own 5% shopping! but not much good if want Mac. Hidden trade line. Very easy to get approved.
@Anonymous wrote:Yes, it Is expensive. I'm a web designer, so the computer performance is really important. The one I was looking at last night. With maxed ram and flash with the apple care, plus mouse and a printer was at 3.5k. That's barebones for me. Not the extras like a display screen, keyboard, cords etc to and set for a real office space. Considering this is all I need to make a business, I don't think it really is that much. I don't even need an office. Or work clothes. Lol. I can just wear my Jammie's.
Dont flog me for the NFCU, it's been on my wish list for a spring spree. I just really want to be in with them. I think they are great.
You can definitely get a business card. The easiest is Amex, Chase a bit tougher. Amex ins't worried about utilization.

*breathe* now that's out of the way. I think it will be good to sign up for the card with good sign up bonus and 0% apr for certain time.
I've only had Dell, personal and business, for the last 15 years. My work laptop, a Dell, is over 4 years old, just went through a HD replacement the last two days to keep it going. The entire company has switched to HP laptops, which I hate. Had to borrow one yesterday, hate, hate, hate. The tech guy warned me someday they are going to take it away from me. I'm actually waiting for them to open up the "bring your own device" so I can get a new Dell Latitude to keep going
I'm on about my 4th Dell desktop computer at home, and a personal laptop I bought in 2008 I use sometimes.
To everyone else, the OP has chosen a particular top of the line Apple, that is designed to meet particular requirements only OP can define. Stop with the shopping suggestions already.
And I would not hesitate to charge the Mac to one of the higher limit cards. Should be no problem.
Dell sucks and they have for years.
kittenattack, everyone trying to tell you what to buy when you Code and do Graphics all day (and i imagine all night being at home).
I would use your lowest APR card and go buy what you want and don't sweat it. interest will be less than $100 for the convenience of keeping your savings in check.

I only use the XPS line at home, and Latitude at work, and they are as high quality as anything available elsewhere.
