Which Score do Credit Cards Use to Determine Eligibility?

I'd like to apply for a Credit Card. Which score do I/they use to determine my eligibility? I have 3 scores: 1 FAIR, 2 GOOD (701, 693, 611). Do they average them; use the middle score; ust the lowest score or take the highest score? I like to apply correctly. Can you please advise me? Thank you.

Most pull a single bureau and your profile is weighed for approval or denial. Score isn't everything.

+1. Different lenders use different CRAs and they have different criteria for approval.

I would look into companies that only pull one database like barclays. You may have a good chance with capital one since the pull all of your credit reports. Amex generally pulls equifax and chase normally pulls experian. Good luck

How come the 611 is so much lower than the other two? All three reports should agree on content except for inquiries and generate similar scores.

They pull whatever they like after you give them permission, and use whatever they pull to assess your credit worthiness.

Re: Which Score do Credit Cards Use to Determine Eligibility?

This is pedantic but credit cards don't use anything.  Creditors (as a group) use a number of different scores based on different scoring models and all 3 CRA's in their decision.  If you can name a specific creditor we might know what specific score and CRA they use.  You can also look at existing discussions here as people talk about which CRA and score a given creditor pulls.  There's also the Credit Pulls Database housed on another site that you can reference but you'd need to Google to find it.  I don't have a link to it handy.

First off, where are these scores from?  What model are they generated from?

Second, a given creditor generally uses a single scoring model and CRA.  However, a given creditor can pull multiple scores and CRA's -- especially in cases where an applicant has borderline credit.  A creditor can also pull a score and report based on an alternate CRA if, for example, there is a freeze on the CRA they norally use.

Not necessarily.  Not all creditors report to all 3.

They can contain the same information for a given person.  That doesn't mean that they do for all.

Not necessarily. Sometimes negs mysteriously vanish.

Here are my scores for all to see:  EQ- 758, TU- 711 (which oddly was my room number at the hotel I stayed in last week - coincidence or message from the universe?) and EXP - 685.  My California tax lien is on Experian only and I fear will stay there until the day I die!
