I am wondering which cards are best to purchase airline ticket to get maximum CashBack/statemet credit....I think Citi Custom Cash could give 5% CashBack but only on the purchase up to $500, please confirm it. How about Amex Blue Cash Preferred, Chase Sapphire (OG), Wells Fargo Autograph, Bank of America cash rewards, NFCU More rewards, Discover IT, Apple Card, GM reward card...Thanks
Chase freedom unlimited gives 5% back on air travel, hotels, rental cars, entertainment, and cruises. Unlimited cash back.
Although this is not a dedicated travel card, I would assume sometbing like the venture or a premium travel card could offer more? I think I've seen as high as 8% on some cards?

I have Chase Freedom, is it the same one Chase Freedom Unlimited? Also, in order to get 5% back on air travel, do I need to purchase ticket from their portal?? Do you know which are those cards that offer 8% on travel?? Thanks

Chase freedom unlimited will only get 5% on airfare purchased via portal.
If your criteria are CASH BACK only and No annual fee, then choices are limited, here's what I can think of:
5.5% up to 6000/yr - Citi Custom Cash 5% back, up to $500 each billing cycle, ++ if you also have Citi Rewards+ card's 10% rebate back making it effectively 5.5% cash back total.
5.25% up to 10000/yr - BOA Customized Cash Rewards 3% back, up to $2500 each quarter ++ 100k+ investment/checking/saving in BOA ecosystem to make the 1.75x relationship multiplier, 3% x 1.75 = 5.25% total.
Wells Fargo Autograph is 3% on airfare. The Autograph Journey is 4% on airfare and 5% on hotels. It has a $95 annual fee but a $50 statement credit when paying for airfare which makes it effectively $45 annually. This is worth it if you spend more than $4500 on airfare or $2250 on hotels yearly.
If you can offset the annual fee, the Charles Schwab Amex Platinum has a 5x airfare multiplier and allows you to cash out MR at 1.1 cpp making it effectively 5.5% cash back on airfare. It also has great travel protections.

Thanks for the information. Please know that I am NOT trying to get any new card to purchase airline tickets at this time because I need to purchase air tickets today for some of my family members, thus I do not have time to apply, get approved and receive the new card. Further, I already have 38 cards, and I want to use any of them for this purchase. Speaking of cards with AF might give good CashBack or good value (miles/points) then I always try not to have cards with AF, but that doesnt mean I will not have if those cards would be beneficial to me and their AF would justify to my spending. I do have some cards with AF, but not whole lot because I have already closed them out or product changed to non-AF card since I was paying tons of money each year towards AF and not using any of those cards at all to justify AF...
Speaking of Chase Freedom Unlimited then I have Chase Freedom and not sure if it is Chase Freedom UNLIMITED or not, but I could find out by calling them. Nevertheless, the problem is- I did go to their travel portal to get the quote for airline tickets but their portal stated that their is no ticket available on that route on that day....which is very surprising because I am getting airline tickets on any other sites so easily. So, this card seems out to ME...
Now speaking of Citi Custom Cash then I am kinda confused though....The 5% cashback on this card is up to $500 each billing cycle or up to the purchase of $500?? My tickets would be $4k+, so if they would consider the purchase of only $500 for 5% cashback then its not worth, but if they could give 5% CashBack up to $500 then its a good news....So, its about $500 for 5%---purchases or cashback, is what I am confused about.
I also have Citi Rewards card, not sure if its plus one or not. If I do then do I need to book tickets thru their portal to earn this 5.5% cashback?
BOA Customomied Cash Rewards could get me only 3% cashback since I dont have that much investment or deposit with BOA.
@mrks_ I do have WF Autograph card....So, only 3% cashback...I already got Charles Schwab Amex Platinum many years ago...Thank you so much. Any more ideas would be welcome.
