Several years ago (almost 10 I think?) I opened an Orchard Bank (HSBC) secured credit card with a deposit of $350. Faithfully paid it off monthly/on time and signed my firstborn over to them to get them to raise my limit to $700 without me adding more funds. (Did that transition it to an unsecured card, creating the mess I'm about to detail? I don't know...) Some time last year Capital One bought HSBC's Orchard Bank accounts. I checked my credit a few months ago and it shows as an unsecured card, so a few weeks ago I called Cap1 to find out where my $350 went. They referred me to HSBC because they said it has never showed as secured on their end. HSBC's CC department said they no longer had my social security number on file but would look into it and call me back. Two weeks pass and I haven't heard back from them, so I called them back today. She said all they can do is "send another email to the back office and see if they know anything," and call back in 3-5 business days (deja vu), but it's likely out of their hands at this point and it's Capital One's responsibility. So who can I contact for help in getting my money?!
Your State attorney generals office if they continue to give you the runaround in my opinion.
Thank you. I was wondering if that should be my next step. I actually threatened HSBC with that when trying to get them to put me through to their "back office" but it didn't faze the the rep whatsoever. Guess that's what I'll proceed with doing.
