If it wasn't for the awsome combo of Chase Sapphire Preferred + Chase Checking + Chase Freedom, I wouldn't have any chase cards.
Note: While I was instantly approved for the Chase Sapphire Preferred recently as well, this was on a joint account with my significant other. I don't count that as an approval for myself, really. It just seems Chase doesn't like me.. :/ Any ideas?
I know webhopper and Tanner are probably going to laugh because I'm posting in here, but BlueHusky, your disparity in credit lines is one shared by me.
Chase must not like me either.
Yes, the Freedom at 1.4K gets a little frustrating for me, specially since I know that I'll be pushing to have my AMEX go as high as possibly can within the next month, but I'm definitely putting in some work with the Freedom. If they want to auto-CLI me, that's fine, if not, that's fine as well. The UR is more than worth it. Yes, the credit line sucks, but the system put in place with the combo is more than worth it for me.
And it doesn't matter the "why" of you getting the CSP, the point is, you got it and it's a joint account and not you on it as a AU, correct?
I don't know, but they hate me, too. The only card I have is one that was a WaMu card before Chase got it. I've never done a thing wrong with Chase. In fact, I do everything right, and keep my card paid off every month. My scores have gone nowhere but up. They soft-pull my reports every month and never give me anything - no CLI from the wacky $3,788 that it is (It was $4,000 and I charged $800 at the dentist once and they dropped me down) and no reduction in the 23% APR I have. No ability to transfer balances (not that I would want to at that APR.

I know what you mean. I dread having to call them for "anything" because it seems like I always get the representative who is in a bad mood. Even when I go into my local bank, the tellers there are never in a good mood. I've always wondered if it is a horrible place to work?
They have great credit cards and their current Freedom, CSP + Checking Account Combo cannot be beat -- my husband and I are anxous to get approved for that deal one of these years. But that's the other thing with them, they want two (2) full years of perfect credit history with "someone else" before they will approve you -- even though we've been checking/savings customers for many years!
So, I hear you -- and I understand.
Don't take it personally. In my opinion some just don't fit that banks perfect profile for lending. I saw this when my mother received 20K from chase and 1K from discover. What's up with that! Not everyone's going to love you.lol
And here is the answer to all the above posts;
Of cards we have in my family, Chase is second only to the BoA constrictor when it comes to "being big bank negatively predictable"; meaning, they're crap. OK, that word might be too kind LOL. They are crap because they will treat you like crap because you are not a person, you are not even a number, you are a cow, to milk or even possibly slaughter; if you aren't groomed to their specs for that moment in time, you are a SICK cow and treated as such.
If you came in to Chase through Wamu, you were a sick, disfigured cow on your way in the door (in Chase's eyes, just so you know). I say this even though Chase has been half decent to us (did not come in through the Wamu door however). They weren't totally without "crappyness" during the downturn when handling my DM's account, but much kinder to her than most of their average to slightly above average cattle.
Chase does not hate any of you, Chase uses everyone (like the BoA, squeezing what they can out of who they see fit to squeeze). Do not respond to this with how wonderful Chase or BoA is, they have their deluded fans, if you're deluded, hush your face, you're not in the real world. And I will be the first to tell you, eventually, if given the slightest reason, they will play games with you and you'll wonder why they hate you.
Yes, we have Chase Freedom (if you wish to actually call it that LOL) but we know where we stand with it, even with a 5k CL and 10.9% rate, I have no reason to trust them. They are all like poorly raised Pit-Bulls really (nothing against pit-bulls, for them, it's how they're raised), and will turn on you when they feel the need. And yes, I've known Chase for nearly 20 years and am well acquainted with how they treat their customers, mostly hearing about the treatment of others.
The 2 banks mentioned above are why I've come to understand why others seem to like their CU's so much. When you think about it, it's almost funny how people continue to do business with the 2 banks mentioned above, but they're not going anywhere, so we use them. We're not going to ban together and yank their customer base out from under them so we stay, a bit like lemmings at times.... The best we can do is use them back as much as possible if we're going to carry them.

Sorry, I'm going to disagree with you here regardless of what you say about being deluded and "not in the real world". As a lender Chase can lend to whoever they see fit. If you don't fit their profile, then that's too bad. It takes two parties to make a deal, and it sounds like a lot of people here are just bitter that they're not getting what they want. Chase generally won't give auto-CLIs. If you want one, you need to request it and be willing to take a HP.
The thing about credit cards is that you need to find the products that work best for you. If Chase doesn't work for your needs, then just do what you did and bank with someone else. This does not mean however, that Chase is awful for everyone. They're a business and not a charity, which means that they are out to make money. If you're not making them money (or enough money), then they'll just pass you over. I don't see why this is so hard to understand.

Well, I'll do my Libra thing and go for the balance.
I completely agree that way too many people read some sort of emotional state into their banking relationships. I'm sorry, it's very possible that the woman (occasionally man) at the front desk at your local branch has a smile that lights up your life, and they play music you like in the background (Michael McDonald/ Howlin' Wolf/ Alison Krause/ Rachmaninoff) on their speaker system, and they give you extra quarter coin rolls, but the fact is, your bank is a business, and you are a customer. If they're smart, they will work on keeping their customers with good service, but they don't "love" you, and it's silly (and dangerous) to "love" them back.
At the same time, being all paranoid about certain banks being out to get you doesn't make sense, either. Many of us have done just fine with BofA and Chase (and AmEx and Citi and USBank and whomever), while we completely understand and sympathize with those who've gotten trampled in the dust, and we fully realize that it could happen to us tomorrow as well.
IMO, keep a realistic view of what all this is about. It's mutual back-scratching, nothing more, nothing less. If you're a PIF'fer, they benefit from your card swipes, and you benefit from their CL and floating your payments. If you're rebuilding or having to carry balances for now, they benefit from your annual fees and interest charges, and you benefit from them loaning you money for now.
But it's a bidness, like any other bidness. Don't let false sentimentality cloud your judgment.
