Why I gave up on chase...

I was holding out to free up slots so that I would qualify for a chase card. The infmaouns 5/24...

In the end, I decided it just wasn't worth it and that being strategic about new apps and accounts was the way to go..  My choice was to either wait for 1 potential chase card (If approved) or apply for 2-3 cards every 6 months for 2 years...

In the end, having 8 cards with their growth potential and history was a better option. 8 cards @ $15,000.00 ($120,000 CL) are better than 1 card @ $10,000.00.

You guys have done this to me !! Smiley Tongue

Re: Why I gave up on chase...

What makes you feel like being strategic about new accounts is "not worth it"?

To me, that's the most important part.

Going "well, the card I can actually use is not worth it to me, so I'll just keep applying every six months whether I need new credit or not"

Re: Why I gave up on chase...

I kinda made that same decision, but besides the mystique of having a Chase card, it didn’t make sense for me. If Chase has cards a person really needs and can use, I agree. In my case though, Chase has only 1 card that would be of use to me, and even it seems to be mediocre compared to other offerings. I’m speaking of the Freedom card, and from I’ve read the categories change every year and sometimes the most useful categories are not included some years. I do plan on getting it eventually, but it’s way down my list of cards that I can better utilize at this point.

In the real world, there is no mystique about having a chase card (or not!)  Most people wouldn't have an opinion if they saw you had one (more likely to make unjustified inferences with an Amex, but that's a different story).

Yes, the rotators change every quarter and don't usually exactly repeat the same pattern each year.   While not guaranteed though, there are some probable patterns, such it is likely that you will get (at least) 1Q with gas.   For some, that's going to be enough to justify getting the card.

I'm in the minority. As I could care less about the majority of Chase cards. They only get a very small portion of use compared to others in the fold here.

Definitely nothing mystical about them, that is for sure! Lol

Re: Why I gave up on chase...

There is nothing mystical about chase cards, but that doesnt mean one should go applying at set schedule.

If a desired goal is to get a credit when you dont need it, but get denied when you do, this plan should work.

Also, Chase is not the only one putting a limit on number of cards they will approve in any particular period of time.
Those lenders who dont are the exception.

But hey..mo cards!

Re: Why I gave up on chase...

I got one, I figured I didn't use it much, tallied it up, and found I did over $3K spend with it last year.

The 5% cats are handy. I just recently bought a tablet and told the cell company to put it on my bill. 5% this quarter on cell phone bills. The restaurant cat is the only one I can max out. It's not a bad card.

If new offerings come out, I'll PC if possible to a better card. It's in the waiting room until then, getting use.

Well this is getting interesting. I wouldn’t randomly get cards just to get them but if something works better for you then so be it!
PERSONAL; Amex | AOD FCU | BBVA | BECU | Capital 1 | Chase | Citi | Discover | Key | NFCU | PSECU | SECU MD | Synchrony | US Bank
BUSINESS; Amex | Citi
F8 Current F8s ~750 Best Ever F8s ~775

Re: Why I gave up on chase...

Chase is an extremely stingy lender.. my current AMEX exposure is well over 50,000 and chase will still deny for they’re most basic cards, IMO good for you. don’t even look back xD

I got the card and used it. I also got another card after it that I use more, so it took spend from it. But still decent spend on it.

That's why I'm not opening more accounts and why 9 cards is enough. But who knows, some great card might come along, which would dilute spend even more.

My BoA card went through a similar cycle. A lot of use, got diluted and even SD'd for 3 months. Now it gets a ton of spend.
