"Cards"
It was such a great idea. I just had to follow through LOL.
If I had to do it all over again, I don't know that I would go with any Chase cards. When I first got into trying to build credit, I saw the Freedom card and didn't really understand how it worked but it looked cool. I think it was one of those recommended cards on some site I visited. I didn't understand rewards and such as I had never had a reward card. I like it but don't use it a ton.
When I got on this forum, everyone was harping on the CSP so I got one and then my travel spending changed. I'm a Delta flyer 99.9% of the time who it not a travel partner of Chase. So I PC'ed it to a FU. Even now I wish I could do something with the FU as I use my Citi DC for most of my general spend. Since I can't PC it to a hotel card like the Marriot, I'm kind of stuck without SD it or closing it which I don't want to do. Maybe eventually I'll just apply for the Marriot and take the CL from FU and split it among the Freedom and the new card and leave a $500 limit on FU and pay some recurring monthly bills with it.

Yes, as with any group there is need to attempt to ignore FoTM stuff (or longer-based memes like Chase Trifecta) and attempt to determine if it really suits your needs. Sometimes hard to do when everyone is singing the praises of a particular card/eco-system/approach like AZEO but worth doing.
Here there is some social push to some of the higher end cards which may not be justified in individual cases.

I'm nuts about it.

+1 Agreed that some people get certain cards for the wrong reasons instead of determining if they are a good fit for themselves. No single card fits every person. Profiles and lifestyles vary widely.
*FoTM = "Flavor of the Month" for unfamiliar My Fico'ers.

This is why I'm going mostly with Chase cards now. I don't hold Chase higher than any other credit card company, but a select few of their cards are working (or will work) well for me: The CSP worked well for restaurants and traveling in 2019, got me primary rental car coverage for a 2 week rental, and opens up transfer partners to entities I wouldn't otherwise be gaining points with; The CF is giving me 5x on URs to bank for future travel plans; a future CFU well net me a 1.5x base on non-category spend; and a Marriott card will give me points, free stays, and a potential transfer partner from URs. My first child is 13 months old now and I anticipate many vacations in the future and the UR system with a Marriott card (and my wife's SPG/Marriott business spending) will fit nicely for my family. We may never have to pay for a hotel ever again if a Marriott is nearby.
But this is just me. I completely understand this not working for someone else's situation or does not sound appealing. I also like my other credit cards equally (Discover, BoA, and Amex) and rotate them all through my wallet throughout the year. People just need to find out what cards work well for them. If I didn't want to think about maximizing future travel, I think I'd be perfectly content with a DC or other 2% card and never look back.
I was actually thinking of holding off on anything else until reports were clean next year and then figured that made no sense. If they decide to offer DW or I a Biz card between now and then or after, it would have to be a solid approval despite being well over 5/24. There will be many options for us coming on both the personal and business side that will suit us perfectly fine. In short, they will have to "Chase" us because we will not be on our knees hoping that they allow us a credit card product.
I feel a bit dirty having accounts there anyway as I saw what damage they did to regular working folk leading up to and during the 08 "crisis" whether they had anything to do with them or not. I did get $700 in checking bonuses this year however which is some kind of justice.

In the end, I decided it just wasn't worth it and that being strategic about new apps and accounts was the way to go.. My choice was to either wait for 1 potential chase card (If approved) or apply for 2-3 cards every 6 months for 2 years...
In the end, having 8 cards with their growth potential and history was a better option. 8 cards @ $15,000.00 ($120,000 CL) are better than 1 card @ $10,000.00.
You guys have done this to me !!
If you only have a couple of cards, then yeah go ahead and apply for some keeper cards with no annual fees. I had the same idea and my first few cards included Chase Freedom/Discover IT/Cash+. Now that I have around 15 credit cards, it's come to a point where it's more of a hassle trying to manage and put spend on each card and I fall back on my WF Propel and Citi DC for most of my spend.
The most annoying thing about Chase is that to maximize value you need to have a Trifecta.
NFCU you can maximize earn within 2 cards. That is pretty easy for most people.
Venture from Capital One is a one shot deal where that is a x2 card.
Part of my reason for getting into Chase was to add credit to lower DTI and have access to bonus spend. The party over once the bonus points run out however. Then you are stuck with mediocre earn.
