Hello all,
Can someone please explain, if Discover SP each and every month to furnish your TU score, why do they INSIST on HP for a CLI? I have been trying for 6 months straight to get a SP CLI. I've used it heavily, carried a balance, PIF, mutiple payments...useless! Thanks for your help and insight...I'm about to give up on Discover REALLY soon...!

To fulfill their obligations to other lenders, recording all attempts at obtaining new credit? That's really how it should be, just that many other issuers no longer do that!!

Granted...but why are there so many posts here about getting SP and/or auto CLI's? I'd just like to know what I am doing wrong...or not doing.

I don't think there is a certain way to get a SP CLI; it seems random at best. But if you use the card heavily, you always definitely will be granted a CLI if you decide to HP. Maybe ask for a CLI (HP be damned) next app spree?

I feel you 61. My CLI button doesnt even work, it always tells me that the request cannot be processed and have to call in. Once i do i always get denied SP and reason is always the same which is my 51 dollar paid collection on TU. I would actually take a HP on TU (only have 5) but after reading how conservative they can be combined with all the new credit i have acquired in the last year i feel it would be a wasted HP. I cannot believe my Merrick card is right behind them catching up to them in regards to limit and got that card 3 months earlier than discover with a much lower starting limit (650) than discovers 1500 limit. Just gave up pretty much on them. May take a HP come fall of this year and ask for the moon...LOL.
Discover is an animal that I have not figured out to date... I have gotten regular CLIs without having to ask for one, there is no rhyme or reason to Discover. I can tell you all that I have done post their 0% deal for 15 months which I used and PIF prior to its expiration, got 1st auto CLI for this (Feb 13) and since I put several hundred a month on it and PIF prior to stmt cut every month, I recieved an auto CLI 5 months ago......

Exactly Dodger...I don't want to use a HP and then be low-balled on the CLI. A $1,000 CLI is not worth a HP, IMO. The problem is that if I ask for $5K with a HP, and they counter with $1K, the HP has already been done. If the case were that I could decline and the HP would be reversed, then it would be fine. Thanks for your input.
Oh believe me I know exactly how you feel 61. Until about 10 days ago I felt the exact same way with Discover. With a lender that requires HP for everybody like Chase or BofA I would have been willing to invest a HP but with Discover that is offering auto CLIs and SP CLIs to sooo many customers I simply did not see why in the world not for me!
61… I have the feeling your turn is coming up soon too. I am still in disbelieve that the luv button all the sudden gave me a SP CLI for 2,5K and doubled my CL after 3 denials every 3 months. My lucky time with Discover was 15 months and finally they matched my lowest 2nd card Chase Freedom. What I notice when I checked my reports in November 2013 I did not have a single SP for account review while all of my other lenders showed up on either EX, EQ or TU ..some even multiple times but Discover never. I did see a SP on IDA and put a freeze on it in December 2013 to force them in the future to pull any of the 3 big ones. Well I do not know if that eventually happened now. Will find out when I get my next reports.
Hang in there…you are next …Good luck!
