I actually just got one today too. Mine says "After the intro APR expires, your APR will be OMG!% to HAHAHAHA!!%, based on your creditworthiness, but we hear First Premier also sent you an offer. Just sayin. This APR will vary with the market based on the Prime Rate."

So far I've received 3 purple envelopes, a red, and now a maroon all for the IT "double cash back your first year".
But, did you get the one with the golden ticket, lol.

There's a tiny chip in each envelope which collects and sends vital info back to Discover
The red you trashed via shredder ....we know because it went dead 30 seconds after the envelope was opened. Chip went dead
The purple showed traces of dust build up before the chip was moved 30' and then went dead 10 days later
The maroon Discover figured what the heck we're bound to get the color right at some point and the offer was good for 30 days chips die at 31 days
Up next the green which indicates Go and bound to catch you attention and you will bite because the last chip data showed you thought about it for 30 days
So we have your number now and color

Ironically I didn't start to receive these until I became a card holder. Lmao!
Cheaper way to do it.
I didn't start getting offers from Discover, Citi, Barclays, and others until I had a mortgage tradeline. Nothing else intrinsic changed score, income, or anything else. Presumably originally got on their files from the pre-quals I did once upon a time other than Barclay's with my marrying Sallie for a while.
Plum, 13.24 - 16.24% for me.

You sure have a lot of inside knowledge...Me thinks we have a spy amongst us!
@Anonymous wrote:Why does Discover sent out different colored envelopes for the IT card?
It's marketing. The point of marketing is to grab attention.

Read the info versus relying on envelope color.
They are trying to find out which color is your favorite and gets you to apply for the card
