Tradition mostly.
I admit being nervous that the two "main" cards I now have my elderly parents using are both Synchrony (Verizon Visa with my dad as the primary, Care Credit MC with my mom as the primary). They have other cards but (Chase, AmEx, WF, BofA) these now make the best "easy to use" low-number-of-cards combination for them, so I'm a little paranoid about both of them being Synchrony (at least it's one each, not both under the same primary, and they will put well over 1k on each card each month).

Synchrony doesn't stress about normal consumers doing normal consumer things. It's us outliers with 20 cards who keep opening new ones and asking for constant credit limit increases that get them twitchy. Same for people who have high limits and try to hide the fact they're shuffling 30% of their income in BTs around all the time.

BS they are just terrible and I deal with the garbage customer service all the time on the Business side since they handle the Sams Buss card ...
Synchrony just closed 2 out of 4 cards I have with them. They all have zero balances. The reason on the letters I got this week, "Not enough balance paid down over time on Real Estate Secured Loan." I bought a home May 2025, of course the balance is high. Purchased a home and they closed the accounts soon as the mortgage reported on my credit. SMH. Im just waiting to get letters that the other two cards are closed as well.

I know Sync is very known to close or CLD cards that haven't been used in a while. My wife's JCP card had the limit cut from 20k to $500 after a year of inactivity, and then closed a year later for the same. I have a fairly new mortgage (3 years old) at about 95% of the original balance and so far they haven't gone after my Lowes card. I do use that one a few times a year though.
I don't recall any posts from others on Sync cards getting closed for the reason code yours gave. The issue could be somewhat score dependent too.
