FWIW, if you search the document for "transaction minimum" you'll find the exact wording.

Yes, they can absolutely require whatever minimum they please. Even $100 (I stand corrected, legal min is 10 bucks--though, in my view, if I were a merchant, I should have the right to charge whatever min I deem fitting).
Now that I have learned that minimum purchase amount is no longer against the contract you are wrong about the any amount. It can't be any amount. It must not exceed $10.
From visa.com:
"Minimum Purchase
U.S. retailers may require a minimum purchase amount on credit card transactions. The minimum purchase amount must not exceed $10 and does not apply to transactions made with a debit card.
Right, but the person who asked the question asked about legality, and you yourself said that it was illegal to have a minimum purchase requirement. It's not illegal to have a purchase requirement of 100 bucks, it's just against VISA policy. It's up to VISA to enforce, not the government.

Right, so if I as a merchant wanted a $100 minimum, I can but will have ditch Visa/MC.
AmEx only anyone? LOL

I know previously AmEx allowed min if the min were applied to other cards however as Visa/MC disallowed them altogether, effectively a merchant that accepts all three could not impose a min. However as of now, it is against federal law to impose a min on any card that exceeds $10.
@Platinum wrote:Yes I do have other cards and I use other cards too. It all depends on the situation. Many time merchants have no idea why they do not take AmEx and I like to teach them lesson occasionally.
Really? LOL !!

When you do something against the policy then it's same as illegal. I did not say it was crime nor that government should enforce it.
Many merchants had that sign displayed in the past when it was against the policy=illegal.

Exceptional post.

Can you please videotape yourself doing this? Walking into a store that obviously doesn't accept AMEX, trying to offer an AMEX, and then lecturing the cashier and storming out would surely get more than a few hits on Youtube.
Lol I'd watch that too... but I'd feel real bad for the poor cashier!
I'm not singling out anyone in particular but several posts have bordered on being how shall I say this? Being less than friendly, supportive, and respectful.
Having strong views and opinions is a very good thing but lets's remember that the opinion of someone else is just as valid as yours or mine.
There is never a reason to belittle or insult or denigrate another member just because they don't happen to agree with you on something.
OK. I'm going back to my popcorn and drink.
